  1. Um no! Its annoying that people don't know it is an actual registrable colour!! Its not chestnut or bay its 'brown'... which can be similar to a dark bay but without the distinguishable difference it black points, mane and tail.

Why do you think all our competition and race horses are called brown if not chestnut, black or bay.

  2. yeah and i especially hate it when they call palomino horses "blonde"!

  3. It annoys me when people call my horse white when its called a grey horse!

  4. well, it depends if the horse actually is brown or not. a brown horse is also a dark bay. i get annoyed when people call gray horses white.. it bugs the heck outta me! we could help describe your horse's color if you post a pic, or you could just email me it to me if you want. by how you describe your horse, it seems she could be a mahogany bay.

  5. yes i hate it. My friend calls my horse dark brown when he's a bay

and she calls my palimino "blonde."

I hate it when people call chestnuts red browns, their chestnuts not red browns.

  6. omg it annoys me so much like today i had people come out to look at the horse i'm selling and the mum's like "awww what a pretty brown horsey" ummm BAY grrrr

  7. I'll say I do!  It really annoys me especially my horse is grey!

  8. My friend calls my horses "The pretty orange one's"

I've given up trying to explain

  9. yeah i so agree! unless it's a little child they don't understand and thats ok because they are only little. But if it's supposed to be an adult and they say they 'know all about horses' and say that then thats just annoying.

  10. It's so annoying.

Horse lovers- chestnut, sorrel, palomino, grey, bay, horse, pony

Other ppl- brown, brown, blond, white, black and brown, horsies

Soooooo annoying. PPL! get your facts straight!

  11. That's funny!  Just today my sister called my horse 'brown.'

I told her that my horse was 'red'...that actually it was called a 'sorrel.'

she thought I was being too picky!

It's no big deal in the grand scheme of things....but it does annoy me!

  12. YES I TOTALLY AGREE!!!

  13. yes it annoys me also god dont get me started

  14. Oh gosh, yes, it's awful! Hate it when they call a gray horse "white" too! Aarrgghh!!!!!!!!!!!!

  15. Red brown would be chestnut

i always have 2 correct mum because whites arnt whites theyre greys.

its funny tho, i look like a smart a*s

  16. i get annoyed with it if its a horse proffesional that says it not when its a beginner

  17. Not really but there is also no such thing as a 'white' horse unless you are talking about an albino. It doesn't annoy me but it would make me think the website wasn't reliable seeing as it doesn't use the correct terms.

  18. I get the ..your horse is "white" with grey spots a lot

    nope hes an Appy

    HUH? a apple?

    no a appaloosa

    um ok then

  19. Yea, it really annoys me =D

'Cause brown could mean like a million different colors in horse color language!

    Lol =D

  20. Well apparently tolerance comes with age because this is something that always used to nark me off to a high degree and I'd actually end up lecturing people until they got that glazed ready-to-bolt look in their eyes.

These days it only bugs me if it's in a formal or informational context ( where you'd expect everything to be just so)

If it comes from one of the tractor guys or whatever then fair enough - they don't kick off when I tell them the thingy's dripping oil or refer to complex bits of machinery as "the spinny thing" They let me  off with that I can sure let them off for calling my horse ginger.

And yes, in casual company we use all sorts of incorrect words - it's like a running joke.

  21. I know how you feel. People always refer to horse colours as either brown, black or white (or they will sometimes say stuff like "brown with black"). It annoys me so much when people say things like that, because then I don't know what colour they are ACTUALLY talking about!

Like, for example, a friend of mine got a horse, and I said "Oh, lucky! What colour?" and she said "Um, kind of white". lol, I rlly wanted to correct her, but then she started talking to someone else, and when she begins (and sometimes when she finishes) talking to someone else, she never listens to me.

  22. I use to be one of those people who would do that, lol. Now I know better. I have a bay, lmao.

  23. Yes it does annoy me. It also gets to me when my mum calls my cremello horse grey, HE IS NOT GREY! HE IS WHITE!

  24. No it just shows that they don't know what other breeds use for registering  as colors. Like in registering a Thoroughbred there is no color sorrel. Some people call  all chestnuts sorrel but I consider a sorrel as a chestnut with a light mane and tail but only as a quarter horse  or other breed not a TB. Here are the colors used by the Thoroughbred registration.at Colors Of Thoroughbreds

The following colors are recognized by The Jockey Club:

Bay: The entire coat of the horse may vary from a yellow-tan to a bright auburn. The mane, tail and lower portion of the legs are always black, unless white markings are present.

Black: The entire coat of the horse is black, including the muzzle, the flanks, the mane, tail and legs, unless white markings are present.

Chestnut: The entire coat of the horse may vary from a red-yellow to a golden-yellow. The mane, tail and legs are usually variations of coat color, unless white markings are present.

Dark Bay/Brown: The entire coat of the horse will vary from a brown, with areas of tan on the shoulders, head and flanks, to a dark brown, with tan areas seen only in the flanks and/or muzzle. The mane, tail and lower portion of the legs are always black, unless white markings are present.

Gray/Roan: In order to reduce the number of corrections involving the colors gray and roan, The Jockey Club has combined these colors into one color category. This does not change the individual definitions of the colors for gray and roan and in no way impacts on the two-coat color inheritance principle as stated in Rule 1(E).

Gray: The majority of the coat of the horse is a mixture of black and white hairs. The mane, tail and legs may be either black or gray, unless white markings are present.

Roan: The majority of the coat of the horse is a mixture of red and white hairs or brown and white hairs. The mane, tail and legs may be black, chestnut or roan, unless white markings are present.

Palomino: The entire coat of the horse is golden-yellow, unless white markings are present. The mane and tail are usually flaxen.

White: A rare color not to be confused with the colors gray or roan. The entire coat, including the mane, tail and legs are white and no other color should be present.

  25. Especially at a fair or show!! "Look at the pretty white horse" or my favorite there are a few stalls of minis... "OMG mom! mom! look a baby horse!" And then there is during a show... "mom can I ride one of the horses!? why can't I ride one?" Or people in general will walk past the horse barn(s) and hold their nose the first thing they say is "Ew gross"

The worse is when someone is walking by a horse and a kid or even sometimes an adult will startle a horse by yelling or waving some object and deny it when it its brought to their attention...

  26. Surely it's just the same as classifying people as blonde, brunette, or red. Annoying!
