Our local KFC restaurant appears to be re-frying the chicken popcorn almost to the point where is has had all the chicken actually fried out of it. It is all caved in and orange in colour not to mention the fact you can taste it too.

What I would like to know is, it legal to do so and if not what do you think I should do about it besides complain to KFC :o)

  1. if the food has been cooked during the day and kept at a cirtain temp they can sell it to the end of the day... if the food falls below said temp they have to throw it they can not however store cooked food then sell it again the next day, even though alot of the fast food joint do this!

  2. if you think some things not right with the place call local trading standards and/or health and safety

  3. i dont think it is illegal just gross

  4. I'm pretty sure this is not illegal. Just gross. I work at burger king as a second job and we will fry the chicken fries and cheesy tots and then leave them in a warmer. When someone orders them we toss them in the fryer for about 20 seconds and serve. When I order something like that I ask for it to be made "off the fryer". There is even a special button on the register so the kitchen knows to make fresh. You might have to wait a few minutes but I think it's worth it. And always ask nicely for it to be made fresh and they will be happy to do it for you!

  5. you can re-heat meat products once to a temperature of 75 degree......then they should be discarded.

  6. Yes! That would let bacteria set and with chicken it is a PHF(Potentially Hazardous Food) and any fast food chain should NEVER reheat ANYTHING! So yes it is very illegal! I would report them to your local health department, so at least they can investigate them and even if they aren't you can at least be at ease and know that they are doing what is right, because that could potentially hurt, or even kill someone with that!

  7. my wife worked in a chippy for 7 years and the boss regularly re fried things like fish cakes and fritters

i think its legal but not nice

  8. Hi there, I own 2 take aways in Manchester city centre although its not illegal, its not a mark of good quality food.

It is acceptable to reheat food chip shops regularly refry food which has not been sold,

Example, I bought a fast food take away in the centre of Manchester last September and kept the staff from the previous owner. On one of my visits to that shop I notice the staff where keeping the food which did not sell in the afternoon trade and reheating it for the evening trade, which is what the previous owner had told them to do.

Its not illegal and its standard practise in most fish and chip shops, they have afternoon shift say 11 am til 3pm then evening 5 till 11 if fish was cooked on the early shift and didnt sell they will keep it and refry it when they reopen.

If you are at all conserned with a takeaways handling of their food simply call your local town hall and report them the Environmental Health who will visit (normally the following day)
