  1. 250 years old, as I recall. Died a couple of years ago, in a zoo in India. (this is from memory. Heard about it on a radio show) Liver failure.

Found a news story about it: http://www.livescience.com/animals/06032...

  2. The oldest documented tortoise, Harriet, a Galapagos tortoise believed to have been a pet of Charles Darwin's, died in Australia in June 2006 at the age of 176. On March 24, 2006, a giant Aldabra tortoise believed to have been 255 years old, a gift to Robert Clive in 1875, died at a zoo in Calcutta.

    Who is the current record-holder?

  4. If you like trivia there's no harm in knowing this info.

"The oldest tortoise ever recorded, almost the oldest individual animal ever recorded, was Tui Malila, who was presented to the Tongan royal family by the British explorer Captain Cook shortly after its birth in 1777. Tui Malila remained in the care of the Tongan royal family until its death by natural causes on May 19, 1965. This means that upon its death, Tui Malila was 188 years old. The record for the longest-lived vertebrate is succeeded only by one other, a koi fish named Hanako whose death on July 17, 1977 ended a 226 year life span." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tortoise
