Question:

Does anyone hate the gemstone Tanzanite as much as I do?

My mom recently bought a $1,000 ring from Jewelry TV. Not only that, she bought earrings, a couple of rings at Wal-Mart for $300 that she claims to be Tanzanite, and finally another ring from Home Shopping Network for $300. She bought all this stuff to make herself happy (I am totally cool with that) and because “Tanzanite is a generational gemstone. It only increases in value.”

Why does everything have to be about money with her? I don’t care how much a gemstone is worth. I would rather my mom take an interest in the people that love her rather than Tanzanite. Mom just sits at home and watches all these Jewelry shows.

For the record, she told me that when she dies, I am suspose to get her Tanzanite to do as I wish. That doesn’t help someone that is financially struggling right now.

Sorry about writting all of this. I just had to make my point why I hate Tanzanite so much.

  1. Hi!

Shame you hate Tanzanite, when clearly it is not the Tanzanite that is the problem.

Compulsive buying can be a real social problem, now-a-days.  The Internet and TV and all the Media!  What a jungle!  All this exposure can spawn the underlying "buying craze" that would normally lie "dormant".

However, regarding Tanzanite (Which is really a "blue-violet" (q.v.)colored ZOISITE).

Zoisite comes in many colors, the most popular (for now) being "Tanzanite".  The word Tanzanite was "coined" by Tiffany's, just to produce a market, thus making the stone more expensive.  It is supposed to be "Zoisite from Tanzania".

I have provided a link that can be of interest, if you want to increase your knowledge of this Gemstone, which you may hate unfairly.

    You be the judge.

  2. I understand where you're coming from, my mom was the same way. But I don't think you are giving her enough credit.

And if it makes you feel better--- tanzanite is really pretty.
