I've got the worst stuffed nose in the world.....does anyone have any tips? (Keeping in mind that I'm ONLY looking for PROVEN remedies....and that I have a barely-stocked house, so I don't have any medicine or special weird herbs or any of that stuff....I just have the BASICS...and it's too late to go to the store.)

Thanks in advance guys.

  1. There is an  acupuncture point on the long muscle that runs along from just behind both ears and along the top of the shoulders, half way along it will be very tender if it's not tender then you have not got the right spot.

Massage the two spots until the tenderness disappears and you will find that the nose will dry up.GOOD LUCK.

  2. Well, I can tell you the things that work for me... one is Afferin nose spray that is great and my Dr. tells me it is the safest on the market for otc sprays. Two, use a saline wash, very cheap and always works. Third,go into your bathroom and turn on the shower with the hottest water you can get. Let the steam get very thick in the room and stay in there and breath the steam. This technique is used a lot for babies too; it works. Finally, eat some hot peppers like Jalapenos or Hobanaro's You may cry a lot but it works. If you don't have any eat some very spicy salsa. Hope one of them works for ya, good luck!!!

  3. My mom swears by sniffing warm saltwater up her nose in the shower.

It really blasts all the junk out of there, even if it feels a bit weird!

There are even kits you can buy which are very popular but just do it the old fashioned way!  Good luck!

  4. If you don't have nose spray then make some salt water that you can drip into your nose with a finger.

  5. i can't imagine pouring salt water up my nose and down my throat.  try good, old fashioned vicks vapor rub.  don't have any on hand, then boil some water and drop in a few mint, some mint extract, maybe even toothpaste so that it smells strongly, put a towel over your head and form a tent around the steaming pot.  breath in deeply through your nose.  this should help clear up the stuffiness, at least for a day or so until you can get to the store to pick up some vapor rub or medicine :)  good luck and i hope you feel better!

  6. Irrigation such as a Neti pot works every time.

  7. Use saline  sprays to cleanse the nasal cavities. Try to stay away from medicated nasal sprays and your sinuses build upa tolerance and also a need for it over time. Steam inhalations work best. In a pot of boiling water add some eucalyptus, tea tree oil, and any other minty oil. A few drops of each. If the smell bothers you, try adding a few drops of lavender. If you have sinus pain this can be very soothing. The menthol helps open and clear your sinuses, while the lavender relaxes you. Place a towel over your head and braethe in the vapors. Remember to close your eyes as it will burn them. Do this a few times a day. The tea tree oil actually has antiseptic properties which will further cleanse your sinuses of allergens and bacteria. One thing that also works for me is eating spicy food. The spicier the better.

  8. Prepare a large bottle of salt water, just by mixing water and common salt, in such a quantity that it tastes only slightly salty. You will pour a little of the salt water into the palm of your hand, and suck it through your noise strongly in such a way that it reahes through your throat. Do that 2-3 times daily, and before sleep.

    Good luck

  9. pour warm salt water up your nose.

Its gonna come down the back of your throat so be ready.

  10. Steam is pretty much the only good way. Boil water in a big pot and put your face over the pot and inhale the steam through your nose.

  11. exhale normally, pinch your nose and hold your breath for 30 to 40 seconds or longer if you can. Wait 2 or 3 minutes and repeat the procedure 2 or 3 more times in the same manner. This is Buteyko method and it always works like a charm for me when I have a cold or the flu. When the nose is unblocked, I wash the nasal cavity immediately with saline to remove all the mucous (you can try sinucleanse)
