Over the past 20 years, slot machines have become the predominant game in casinos. In the 60's, table games accounted for roughly 80% of gaming revenue and now the opposite is true. That having been said, table games -and poker in particular- have seen a resurgence, especially among younger gamblers.

What do you think caused both the shift from table games to slots and the resurgence in table games among younger gamblers?

  1. Slots do not require any skill while table games require a reat deal And with most Casino's advertizing above 90% pay offs the suckers flock too them when they actually have the lowest payoff % and are the Casino;s bread and butter.  About 90% of all income comes from slots while only skilled players win on the tables.

  2. I think it's the money that is at stake in poker tournaments is what makes them more appealing.

All slot machines have a certain limit as to how much you can win or bet. With poker it fluctuates.

Most major poker tournaments world wide now offer prize pools in the millions of dollars because of the popularity. With entry fees being in the thousands. You couldn't realisticaly ever find slots with the same prize payouts.

Also the natural high you get from playing poker is tough to match. Bluffing someone out of a pot with nothing gives you a killer rush. Or sweeping a huge pot.

Most slot, video poker and other table games are all the same after a while. You don't really see anything new. Doyle Brunson has been playing poker for many years and still says he learns something new every time he plays.
