Does anyone have a derringer cycle and how does it perform?

I'm contemplating buying a vespa, or a honda and saw a link to derringer hybrids. I live in a hilly town and wonder whether i'd actually ever pedal the thing. It looks pretty heavy. Also, how would it get serviced? any thoughts appreciated.

I've allways wanted to build something like this out of a chainsaw engine but just never got around to it.
