I keep reading how bad paxil is and my doctor prescribed this for me for post partum depression. I took my first one today, can't sleep, and am having second thoughts about taking it after I read how bad it is. They say not to stop without talking to doctor.. even if I only took one?? Does anyone have anything good to say about the medication??

  1. Paxil.....BAD, horrible experience.

  2. Sorry to say but, no.  I used to be on Paxil and I developed an allergic reaction where I broke out in hives.  Plus, I used to date someone who was on Paxil and said that he had violent mood swings as side effects.  Everyone's experience is different.  In my opinion, antidepressants are the devil!  They do nothing but cover up the issues.  Unfortunately I've fallen pray to the toxic drugs--my stupid doctor prescribed me on Effexor about 4 years ago for my depression and OCD.  Since this med has bad withdrawals from coming off of it, I might be stuck on it for the rest of my life which really sucks b*lls.  Talk to your doc and get off it while you still can.  Since it's only been one day for you, you can probably get away with throwing the bottle in the trash can and have no problems with withdrawal--that's what I would do if I was in your shoes.  Like one time, I had to take antibiotics for 10 days for a minor skin infection and I didn't even finish them cause of the annoying side effects.  I threw them in the trash can on the third day.  The infection just cleared up on its own.  I even threw away and tore up a prescription for sleeping pills my doc gave and it was so cool; lol!  Anyway, best of luck to you.

  3. Here are nine natural and herbal remedies that are used for depression, St Johns Wort, Omega-3, SAM-e, Folic Acid, 5-HTP, Diet, Vitamin B6, Magnesium,  avoid sweets, caffeine and alcohol.

Im taking Omega-3 to help me with my memory and it seems to lift my mood somewhat as well.  I take 1tsp of flax seed oil each morning before I go to work.

  4. Paxil saved my life. Without it I couldn't have continued living with my anxiety & depression. I've been on Paxil for over 3 years & I thank God for giving some person the brains to design that particular drug.

I have friends who say Paxil hasn't worked for them. I took Prozac first & it made me worse. We're all different as to how we react to meds. But there are so many antidepressants to try until you get the right one for you. If you don't want a medication for your problem then maybe counseling would help. But just don't let that depression get the best of you. You have to do something to get better!

    I wish you well.

  5. While everybody's experience with Paxil is different, I can only tell that it has worked well for me, with no serious side effects.

I started taking Paxil back in 2002 because my anxiety attacks were so bad it was hard for me to work. I started taking Paxil CR 25 MG and the only side effect I had was I literally had to NO s*x drive what so ever, but to me it was worth it especially since I wasn't having the anxiety attacks. About 3 years into taking Paxil I told my doctor about my lacking s*x drive and he lowered my dosage to the 12.5 and so far so good.

Now while my experience with Paxil was okay, my Grandma was also put on Paxil and it didn't help her at all. So like I said it all depends on the person.

I suggest you talk to your doctor. Tell him your concerns and I'm sure there is something he will be able to do.

  6. I know that it helps many people, and so does your doctor, that is why they prescribed it.

If you are experiencing negative side-effects with Paxil, call your doctor and they should recommend something else for you to take.

I have had a loved one struggle with post-partum depression, and wish they would have been open-minded enough to try an antidepressant to help them get through it.

Good luck, and stay strong.  God bless.

  7. paxil got rid of my nightmares which was great and it did help get me out of my funk.

you should take paxil in the morning or it will keep you awake at night.  if you want to stop, it's ok after one pill since it really hasn't affected your system.  if you take it for more than a week, then you shouldn't stop cold turkey.

if you're that worried, tell your doctor.  st. john's wort is a natural remedy for depression with almost no side effects.  you can buy it over the counter.

  8. i took it for 5 years and it did wonders for me. It really helped me a lot. Its not as bad as they make it out to be. But i guess it depends on the person. I'm sure it affects everyone differently. You can stop taking it if you want. When you've taken it enough for it to be in your system is when you should talk to your doctor. I tried to stop once after i took it for 2 years. i wanted to walk out in front of a bus. It does work but coming off of the drug is horrible. you cant just stop taking it. its a long slow process.

**oh i forgot to mention i didnt have a s*x life for those 5 years though. just alittle something i thought i should mention. It puts a real damper on realationships.

  9. My experience with Paxil was horrible.

Ask to be prescribed Lovan. It had little side affects on me.

I stopped taking Paxil on my own, because of the side affects. See your doctor asap though each case is different.

Oh yeah, don't drive while taking Paxil. It seems to impair reaction time and judgment.

  10. I've taken it for ten years or so. It worked better for me than any other medication and I've never had any major side effects.

I'm not sure what you read, but most people who take Paxil do not have any serious problem with it.
