  1. Like two other answerers, I have had my best luck by gaining control of Australia, and moving up slowly until I had the cards to get an extra 10 armies or so.  Then I would develop a plan to knock out an opponent who has only a few armies but some cards.

    3 important strategies:

    1. Protect Australia (or South America).

    2. Prevent opponents from getting extra armies for the continents they are controlling.

    3. Knock out opponents who have cards.

And of course, when attacking, don't get greedy.

  2. Start with your home 'base' in Australia. This will allow you to increase your forces and keep others from attacking you from behind. Take it slow and don't stretch your army too quickly. It's tempting to attack as many countries as possible in a single turn, but 1 will do. Remember that it is a long game so you need to be prepared and solidfy your defenses before moving into Africa or Asia.

If Australia is not an option take South America as it's easy to defend and gives you some options on which continent to pursue next. I would suggest North America, but it always depends on what your opponent is doing. Just make sure not to your opponent separate any continents you've been able to join together with your color. It makes it difficult to move forces then and you'll spend a big chunk of the game fighting off numerous fronts. :)

  3. Try to take North america and then expand to south america and Africa.  Keep a foothold in asia and Europe.

  5. I concentrate my forces in Australia, then once I have it, I hover around southeast asia until I have enough cards to get enough troops to make my move.

  6. A good basic strategy is to take South America.  Save up your armies and shoot across North America.  If you have those two continents, you're getting 7 bonus armies and only have three countries to defend.  From there it's pretty east to build up and get the rest of the world.

If you're in a multi-player game, a counterintuitive strategy that often works for me is to start by trying to take Africa.  It's actually a pretty lousy continent to start with, but that's the beauty of it.  Most other players will ignore you while they fight over the Americas and/or Australia.  You often manage to be the first to take a continent, and that gives you the boost you need to move into South America, North America, etc.
