My family is allergic to cat hair. I was wondering if a hairless cat would be better than no cats at all.

  1. sure i think hairless cats are pretty cool. there are some cats that are almost hairless to like the cornish rex. the shpinx cat is hairless though. my dad is allergic to cats to, but hes allergic to their saliva so we're getting a siberian cat.

  2. They do have some hair, it's very fine, but it's there.  Part of the allergic reaction is in the skin (dander) and part is the ingredient in the saliva actually--so the double whammy is what's going to affect someone who has reactions.

  3. Yes those cats that seem hairless, are not. They have just the thinnest layer of fur. Get a horse or something. Maybe a flamingo.

  4. I have never had one, but hear they are quite expensive and somewhat delicate -- up to and including sunburning.  I also think that they have a tendency to be attached to one member of a family.

The other thing I believe you ought to consider is it is entirely possible that what those allergic are allergic to is the cat's dander, not just the hair.  A hairless cat has dander, also.

    Good luck!

  5. no they are creepy

  6. Hairless cat are not hypoallergenic and if you're allergic to cats you'll be allergic to them.
