I'm in the market for a good quality Above ground pool and have been quite suprised to have been quoted more than $27,000 for a 16' x 32' with 8 foot deck!

  1. If you were quoted that for a kayak, with the shallow end deck extension and a dished out deep end, that's a little steep unless the site access is terrible. If that was for an inground vinyl and for a 8 ft deck, that's a bargain. It's hard to tell, the way you worded your question. The standard is three feet. That's a lot of extra concrete or other deck material if this is the case. Generally, a an inground vinyl that size usually starts at about 24 grand and the deck material can range from anywhere from $1.25- $10.00 per square foot plus labour.

As for the quality of the Kayaks themselves? They're ok. Not fantastic. They're coping track is a silly design ( where the liner hooks in) and tends to break down with UV exposure easier than other plastics I've seen. The corners are also prone to popping out. If a small section lets go, you need to get on it right away or it'll continue right down the whole side. The way they're plumbed, with the additional suction at the base of the wall is also a pain to winterize if you live in an area that requires closing the pool over winter. The wall panels have been improved over the years so rot isn't an issue anymore. Their side deck space is not great. Two people trying to pass each other and one will go swimming.

They do have an advantage in that dishing out is possible ( making a deep end) giving you an inground type of pool without as much excavation since the shallow end is at ground level.
