  1. the Wings are old defensively...Chelios..lidstrom and rafalski have brittle legs and stand no chance against malkin, crosby and hossa's offensive attack. and yes the west is the better conference! but pittsburgh is clearly the best in the east! so I'd say that in itself gives pittsburgh a legitimate shot at beating the wings. GO PENS BABY!!

  2. A girl mentioned above me about the Patriots.....

Everyone was talking about the Patriots the same way you're speaking of the Wings......and we all know what happened to the Patriots. They WEREN'T going to Disney World.

  3. Yes, Crosby is Bettmans Goldenboy so there will be a "no touching me" sign on him that will be enforced by the officials.

  4. Solid defense, hot goaltender, consistent offense. They have it all. They're not Nashville or the Avalanche. They have more scoring than Dallas did.

  5. If Crosby, Malkin, Hossa, oh h**l, there's not much of a chance for the inexperienced Pens. Maybe if the Pens could add Kovalchuk, Ovechkin, Thornton and say a few other top guns, but we know that isn't possible.  Maybe next year Pittsburgh, sorry. Detroit Red Wings, slowly becoming the epitomy and definition and model for all sports and corporations; one desire, one commitment: TEAM! Let's Go Red Wings!!!

  6. i dont know anything about hockey. and i hate the penguins. but the one thing i do know is they are going to beat the living h**l out of detroit.

  7. go wings go...

  8. I think anyone who doubts the Pens are either homer Wings fans, or idiots in general.  This series will be one of the most entertaining and anticipated series out of the last few years.  Both sides have 2 or 3 superstars on offense. (Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Franzen (playing like a superstar the last few months.))  Crosby, Malkin, Hossa for the Pens.  Both teams have outstanding defense, and both teams goalies are playing incredible hockey.  Both teams don't know what to expect, since they haven't played eachother in the reg. season. (pre season, I think, Det. winning 1-0?  And without Malkin)

By the way, wvbball2007, you're a jackass.  Do everyone a favor and stop talking.

  9. Yes I think I do. The Pens have more superstars with Crosby Malkin Hossa to just Zetterberg Datsyuk for the Wings. The Wings have a better defense than the Pens. It will come down to Special teams. If the Pens can get their power play going and slow down detroit's they will win. I am saying Pens in 7 games.

  10. yes!

  11. NO.

They are a good club with a lot of talent, but I truly think Detroit is a better club with depth. The coach and the  goalie at Detroit are better.....and I think that is what it will boil down too.

    Wings in six.........maybe seven.

  12. You really shouldn't get cocky.  The Wings are definitely capable of beating the Pens, but its not a sure thing.  If you have watched the Wings play all season, you should know they are capable of playing poorly.  I've seen it plenty of times.  I do think the Wings will win the series, but the Pens are a good team and if Detroit starts making mistakes, Pittsburgh is more capable of capitalizing on them than any other team we have faced so far.  I guarantee that if Detroit starts getting rattled you will start seeing that happen.  When the Wings get nervous, they tend to try to force plays that aren't there.  That often leads to turnovers from Detroits D when trying to break out of their own zone.  That could lead to their demise against Pittsburghs offense.

  13. Yes I have several points to dispute this easy series win for the red wings.  One Pittsburgh is 8-1-1 against the west.  Yes they didn't play detroit but they beat dallas.  Let's see another point Fleury has the best save percentage and most shutouts in the playoffs, Crosby is the leading scorer, also high on that list are Malkin and Hossa, yes I know what detroit scorers like datsyuk, and zetterberg are on that list too, let's see the pens power play is really decent as is their penalty kill, the same could argument could be made for detroit, I like osgood but clearly fleury has been the better goaltender.  So if osgood is forced to handle upwards of 35 plus shots I think he will show weakness.  Detroit was tested by dallas and somehow you got tested by the predators.  Colorado was not a challenge likewise Ottawa wasn't for the pens.  So they both played a series that was considered too easy.  The pens have faced physically demanding teams and while Kronwall is physical let's see what happens when you face a physical team.  I see a long series that in the pens will have earned the stanley cup.

  14. the pens have better offense, but they don't have a draper line. also the experience differences between fleury and osgood may be the difference in this series..

  15. Everybody said the same thing about the New England Patriots a few months ago. I suspect the guy who wrote that article is a bigger homer than you are.

  16. That article would be a lot more convincing if the same guy had not written this one the day  before http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/news;_ylt=Am...

  17. The Penguins seem unstoppable thus far into the playoffs. With the Crosby, Malkin, and Hossa line and Fleury in goal, they will be the toughest challenge for the Wings this entire season. However, the Pens, while they do have amazing production, will be put in a chokehold by the Wings. Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Lidstrom, Rafalski, Osgood, Kronwall, Holmstrom, and Franzen are a far more dominating force. More goals for, less goals against, more potential HOFers, and far more experience lead me to believe that the Wings will take this series. The Pens will probably take at least two games though so it is going to be the most exciting series to date.

  18. Yes, If the team gets caught in an accident and they all brake their legs and cant skate anymore. Then they might win in a game 7.

  19. -Crosby, Malkin, Hossa

    -Georges Laraque > Darren McCarty

    -Marc-Andre Fleury in goal

-Pens have lost only 2 games in the playoffs

Certainly not an automatic win for the Pens, but they definitely have a decent shot.

  20. yes. and i'm a wings fan. you act like there is no question about who will win.

while detroit has made some improvements from last year and they are healthier as well as having solid play by their D and osgood, pens still pose a threat. they have three extremely talented forwards and any one of them is capable of scoring points in bunches. especially on their hot PP. then there is fleury. good play by goalies have killed the wings since their last cup. no matter how many chances zetterberg/datsyuk and the rest of the gang get, a hot fleury is enough to stop them alone.

  21. IMHO the Red Wings are a better team and will win in 5 or 7 games. But I will put my arguments based on an assessment of the teams not on the opinions of a beat writer from San Francisco who probably wears two pairs of long johns just to watch a game.

  22. How quickly people forget.

Last year when Ottawa rolled through the East, nobody outside of Detroit, Vancouver, Minnesota, and SoCal gave Anaheim a chance... and then the Ducks steamrolled the Senators outplaying them in every single area of the game.

It wouldn't shock me if the Red Wings do the same thing to the Penguins here in 2008. Detroit has been on a mission since October... they were the best team in the regular season playing in the better conference. Sure, Pittsburgh has a lot of young talent... and sure, they can be explosive at times (like Ottawa could be last year)... what they don't have is experience and defense - and that will be the difference.

Funny the girl who brought up Fleury... a first overall pick a guy who almost lost his starting job to Ty Conklin. He reminds me of Emery last year and we all know how that worked out.
