The SR-71 Blackbird is the fastest plane ever. It could cruise at mach 3 at an altitude of 80,000 feet. One flew from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C. in one hour. Another very fast plane was the F-104 Starfighter, capable of mach 2 flight.
