  1. **I have several suggestions. Why don't you contact the Historical Society in Chicago and see if they have a family file in their collection.  Write and ask them if they have such a thing.  You probably will have to pay for a copy if they have one.  Perhaps there is even a volunteer on Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness who might be able to help you do this.

My next suggestion is to see if anybody has posted a family tree on ancestry.com or genweb or anything else and contact them and see what they might have.

You might be insulted by the third one, but it is an option as well.  If he was ever arrested, there might be an arrest record with his picture.  Nobody ever thinks of this because they don't want to think their ancestor was ever arrested, but they could have been arrested for a minor offense or a major one.  Arrest records could be in the County Archives.

Hope these couple of suggestions help. . . .

  2. After 22 years in Chicago, my first question is "Who was Jacob Burkhartsmeier?" He wasn't a famous person to the best of my knowledge. There's nothing about him on the Chicago Public Library subject catalog, nor does the Chicago Historical Society database have any information on him.

The only census record on him from Cook Co lists him as a "huckster"...so he was a street peddler. I'm not sure where you'd look for a picture of him if the two obvious sources have nothing. He lived at 108 Cornell, which is a  street that disappeared when the Loop was redeveloped after the fire.when the large lakeshore parks were created with all of the debris.

I wouldn't know where to send you for a photo of him. If the Historical Society doesn't have it and the ibrary doesn't have it, you're going to have to work with posting boards like ILGenWeb to see if a private person has one. I'd start with both the Cook Co GenWeb board and the Genealogy.com pages for Wuerttemberg and Illinois. Then start your own family name board for "Burkhartsmeier".
