  1. Some days you win, some days you lose and that's with any system.

If you define profitable as making a living betting?  No one does.

If you define profitable as winning more than you lose?  That can happen if you really work hard, learn your track and the horses that race there, watch every race and every horse and bet selectively.

If you define profitable as winning in any give day?  That happens with any system.  Names, number, color of silks, etc.

But if you define profitable as going to the track ready to lose everything and coming home with something?  Then that can be done almost every day.

Bottom line, no, there is no system to win all the time.

  2. No.  If someone did, there would be no betting on racing.  In the long run, you will always lose.

  3. Time and Patience.

It takes time to learn how to handicap. It takes time to read the PP's.

Read books, lots of them, from some of the great handicapper's and learn some of their secrets and create some of your own.

There are as many different ways to handicap a race as there is factors in the race.  Speed, class, form, jockey, distance, surface, trainer, weight, value,  luck, etc, etc.

It is up to the individual handicapper to wade through all the info and come to what you believe is the right conclusion and to make a value judgment to whether or not your pick is profitable.

I think the majority of horse racing fans, enjoy the race for the sake of the race and the challenge of the unknown. The payoff is just the icing on the cake.  If you do not enjoy the sport for the sake of the sport, there is not enough information or systems out there to make you profitable.

You know what they say, "Horse racing ain't for the faint of heart."

    good luck to you

  4. Is there such a thing? Become a bookie, there's a saying 'you never see a bookie on a bike' - too true.

  5. Yes---I do!!!

  6. Yeah, it is called researching the horses and jockeys.  If you are asking on Yahoo! Answers, you are going to end up trying loads of failed systems and losing a lot of money.

  7. There are literally hundreds of racing systems offered online. Most are reasonably priced and are quick and easy downloads. Just search Yahoo or Google for "horse racing systems" and the search results are endless! Keep in mind that most claim to be the "sure thing", but more often than not will have you chasing after easy money that is not there. With that being said, I have found a few systems that work... IF YOU FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES within the system. One of the best (and cheapest) I've found is at

    http://www.horseplayerhaven.com

known as The Oldest System on the Planet. It's easy to use and understand and does work.

There are also several software programs available that "pick" the horses for you that you might want to search for. Good luck and I hope you win big!

  8. I'd highly recommend a book called Exotic Betting by Steven Crist. You'll still need to learn how to handicap a race which comes from additional sources, but I believe the book Exotic Betting does a great job of helping you understand how to maximize your betting leverage.

In regards to handicapping - there's really no easy solution. You can learn more about that aspect via these free introductions:

Incidentally, yes there are people who make a living at Handicapping, or betting - however like any entrepreneurial endeavor it is a lot of work, and with horse racing it can easily be a 6 or 7 day work week.

Even if you just want to approach Horse Racing as a novice I'd recommend the Book.
