kind of like the BBQ pork Chinese restaurants use in fried rice.

  1. I make this all time..but I don't go through the trouble of preparing it by scratch. To many ingredients to purchase.Go to your local Asian market and find a Char Siu marinade. Noh of Hawaii makes one. Marinade the meat in plastic bag at least 8 hrs or overnight, then grill or broil. It's delicious.


  2. I think they use a prepared rubbing stuff?...either dry or in paste form from a catering sized jar?...but,be careful the chinese use a lot of sugar in their meat recipes!...and eat too much sugar?...you may have to change youre avatar to 'wide screen'...?...

  3. It is called Char Sui Pork.  Here are a couple of recipes for you.

    Char Siu  



    Ingredients:

    2 lbs Pork tenderloin

    Salt & Sugar

    1/2 C Catsup

    2 Tbsp Sugar

    1 tsp Hoisin sauce

    1 Tbsp Sesame oil 1 Tbsp Sherry

    1 tsp 5-Spice powder

    1 clove Garlic, minced

    1/4 tsp Baking soda

    1 tsp Salt

    Red food color  

    Cooking Instructions:

    If meat is large, cut into strips approx. 1-1/2 in. in diameter. Sprinkle with salt & sugar & let set several hours; drain. Combine remaining ingredients, pour over meat & marinate 24 hours, turning several times to coat all sides. Place on rack in a shallow roasting pan; bake at 350 degrees for 30 mins.; turn meat, baste with marinade & bake another 20 mins. Cool. Slice to serve.

    Char Siu  



    Ingredients:

    4 lbs Pork butt, cut into 5" x 3" x 2" pieces

    2 Tbsp Hawaiian sea salt  Marinade:

    1 C Sugar

    1/2 C Shoyu

    2 Tbsp Honey

    1 Tbsp Whiskey

    1 tsp Red food coloring

    1/2 tsp Chinese 5-spice powder  

    Cooking Instructions:

    Rub pork w/ Hawaiian salt & refrigerate 1 hr. Combine marinade ingredients. Soak pork in marinade in refrigerator 24 hrs. turning occasionally. Place meat on a rack over 1/4" of water in a shallow roasting pan. Roast 1-1/2 hrs. at 300° F.
