In the absence of Iraqi supplies, prices have soared three-and-a-half-fold since the U.S. invasion on March 20, 2003. (Last week, they shattered all previous records, even after adjusting for inflation.) The profits of the five biggest Western oil companies have jumped from $40 billion to $121 billion over the same period.

i don't.

  1. 85% of all Iraqi oil output is under contract to a French firm, Compagnie Petrol De Francais. And France doesn't have any troops in Iraq. Sure wish the Washington Post and the rest of the "mainstream media" would do some better reporting instead of the usual knee-jerk reaction based on a sole ability to read and write press releases.

  2. Yes and no. Keeping the oil channels open is never the less a noble cause. What would happen to this nation without oil? Wouldn't last a week. We'd be like a very large ship that suddenly lost its engine. Democrats have restricted drilling here and being self-sufficient. On the other hand, the U.S. wants to keep the business of oil purchase going. We all know if the U.S. simply wanted the oil, we could just take it. But the U.S. doesn't operate that way.

  3. Prove it!

  4. I have absolutely no doubt that is the motive.
