Question:

Does anyone have a suggestion for a dramatic Shakespeare monologue for women?

Despite the assurances of the avatar, I am a girl (just using dad's account ;D), so I'd prefer it were written from the perspective of a female. No "Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?" please. Nothing too overused. And when I said dramatic, I mean dramatic. Something really intense or something I could cry during (one of my many talents xD) would be nice.

Any suggestions would be great. =)

  1. You could do the Lady MacBeth monlogue mentioned before.  You could also look into her "Out d**n spot" monologue.  That one, I think, gives a bit more opportunity for characterization because we are seeing her going mad in front of our eyes.  Other dramatic Shakespearean women could be Gertrude's speech in Hamlet when she reports Ophelia's death.  I think Juliette's death speech was mentioned also, that is another good one.  I'll try and think of a few others and come back to add on.

  2. This is a Lady Macbeth monologue: http://www.monologuearchive.com/s/shakes...

She's basically trying to convince her husband Macbeth to grow some balls. She's a fascinating character, very cunning and manipulative.

  3. In Romeo And Juliet act 5 scene 3 line 160 Juliet says her death speech and I think that is so dramatic and rarely used.
