We just started thinking about adoption, but we know we definitely want to adopt from Korea. My husband is from Seoul and moved here when he was 6.

  1. As I recall, South Korea has one of the most restrictive adoption programs out there.  They only work with a very few adoption agencies and there are rules as to how close the adoptive parents must live, in reference to the actual physical agency or agency branch.

I know they work with Holt International, but I don't know the other ones.  It's been a long time since I researched this, so things may have changed.

    Good luck!

  2. My recommendation would be to research adoption agencies that have a Korean program and interview them.

Ask them about their fee structure, contact with birth parents, follow up counseling etc.

There is a book called "The Complete Book of International Adoption" and it lists 50-70 questions to ask adoption agencies to help you determine the best agency for you.

I would also check out adoption forums such as:

    www.informedadoptions.com

    www.adoptionthreads.com

Best of luck in your research.
