Im trying out for my middle school team this fall. Ive never picked up a stick in my life and dont want to make a fool of myself. Im taking a 4 day camp next week so i can learn a few basics. One other thing i was worrying about is that im black and basically all the players in my area are white. I kind of think ill feel like an outsider. Does anyone have any advice at all to help me prepare?

  1. Hey don't worry about it, field hockey is a easy sport to learn and if your athletic you will pick up the stickwork really quick, but practice that alot along with all the stuff they teach you at camp, also do the individual drills that they teach you at camp at home. Practice everyday. Don't worry about your race, no ones going to look at you as an outsider, so don't look at your self as one. Also your not going to be the only one who has never picked up a stick in there life, trust me, and if you practice a lot this summer, and have athletic ability then, you might even be better then a player that has played before. Don't worry about anything, just enjoy yourself when your playing, thats all that matters.

    hope this helps =)
