Does anyone have advice on how to gain access to my bedroom after my 3 year old locked the key inside.?

My son, in a fit of anger...locked the key to my bedroom on the inside. I am far from handy so I have no idea what to do. I attempted to gain access thru the window...only to put a large crack in the glass. I dont have money to pay a locksmith...At this point I'm almost willing to offer a trade of services, if you know what I mean. Either that, Or i will have to break the window out completely...ahhhh! advice would be greatly appreciated! thanks :D

The doorknob itself doest have any s***w holes visible on the outside. The hinges aren't visible from this side of the door either...so that isn't an option...I am currently limited as far as patience goes, so I doubt I will be able to pick the lock myself. I need to go to work in a few hours and at this point, I am still in my pajamas, as my clothes are locked in my room. I have a butterknife, a screwdriver and a paperclip, but so far I am having no luck.

this kind of key hole appears standard to me..nothing fancy about it..the k**b is round on the outside(which is what i see) and a lever type handle on the inside(which i am locked out of) the key that unlocks it looks like any other key i have. I have now worked up a sweat trying to jimmy the lock...still no luck :((

  1. Look at the plate next to the door under the k**b. Does it have a little tiny hole in it? If it does, that is the safety release. Use a paper clip or a jewelers screwdriver to release it by pressing on it.

If that doesn't work - locksmith or kick it down and repair the damage when you can. If you can't kick it in, go for a window.

Best of luck! I've been there too!

  2. try calling some friends and see if they know how to pick a lock and then maybe call the cops to see if they can do anything about it too. if it is really a problem, im sure some1 calll help

  3. If you can't get at the hinges  to remove the door ,call a lock smith.having someone ripping off molding etc would only cause more problems.

  4. ooh that sucks.....i fell your pain....

b4 u call anyone id try youtube to see if you can pick it yourself

  5. try to slide a credit card or similar card between the door where the latching device is located, i'm sure you've seen this done many times in the movies, most times it will work, but not always.    i've used that method several times myself for locked doors.

hope you understand what i'm trying to tell you..

    good luck to ya.

  6. Use a credit card and slide it between the door trim where the door strike is. If need be pry up the trim (probably not necessary) slightly. This works on 95% of interior and a -lot- of exterior doors.^

  7. Chainsaw...or  Hmmm maybe CALL A LOCKSMITH :P

  8. OK now! go to home depot and buy a pair of large pair of  channel lock pliers and a new door k**b. now when you get home take the pliers and get a good grip on the k**b and twist the **** out of it and it will break loose and open then install your new door k**b. then give that kid a good whipping!

  9. You mentioned that you cracked the window. Since the window will have to be replaced; break the window and enter the bedroom. Place a piece of plastic over the window hole.

Go to work, relax and repair the window in a normal routine.

  10. Go slow and pull the casing of around the door....don't break it and pull the nails through from the back side of the casing with end nips or pliers....and save till you have time to do it right..........now reach behind the jamb and try to push the bolt in...or move the jamb over.....just knock the wedges down and out.........be patient.......next time keep the key on the outside of the room.........usually there's a release hole on cheapy locks.......but sounds like someone bought you a real lock.........write back........if you have any freebies:) so sorry. bye Also do you know what the escutsion plate is .......it's the round circle of metal around the hole.....there might be a piece of metal sticking out there.......just push it in and pull the handle off.......then get to the screws and take it apart.
