I am the sibling of a severely autistic 21 year old. Social services is currently wanting to put her in a residential home in Manhattan but we feel she should be somewhere that has access to outdoors and the country side. Does anyone have experience with this type of situation? Is it better to have her closer to us or place her in a home in the suburbs?

  1. Check with WOWY, they are located on 55th and 1st Ave, they work with Autistic Young Adults, and may be able to give you an educated answer.

    Good luck!

  2. As your family know your sister better than anyone else then you will all have to make the decision between you as to what is best. Remember people with autism thrive on routine and on seeing the same faces everyday so maybe she will be better close to her family. Good luck.
