Does anyone have an idea for a out of country vacation for mother and 14 year old sun?

We need help choosing a good, week or so long out of country vacation for mother and 14 year old sun. We are looking for something out of the United States. We have considered Atlantice on Paradise Island, various resorts in Mexico, as well as considering a European travel such as Italy, England, or Scotland, ect. ect. We do preffer a beach resort such as Atlantice but do not get me wrong, Europe is fine as well! Money is not too big of an object, but nothing outrageous. We do not with to do any cruises.

We are open to any ideas, tips and advice. :)

Quite frankly, I think your son is too young to appreciate Europe, unless he's into history, architecture, culture, etc. It's too bad that you are not into cruises, as the Land/Cruise tours of Alaska are fabulous - and there will be plenty of children his own age to hang out with. But, c'est la vie. I assume you will be travelling during the summer, so the problem with the Caribbean is that it's hurricane season. What about Canada? I took my son on a 10 day road trip around Nova Scotia and Cape Breton. Very beautiful scenery and some great beaches. There are also whale watching tours that are great fun. My son was 12 at the time, and thoroughly enjoyed himself.  We took many trips together when he was young, and, though he's 23 now, he still remembers every detail. He especially liked our trip through  the American Southwest and our stay on Kiawah Island in SC. We've also stayed in Martinique, Grenada and St. Lucia (at all inclusive-resorts). Even though there isn't much to do beyond swimming, snorkeling and visiting the rain forests, he loved every minute of it (he complains (jokingly I hope) that I never take him with me anymore). If it weren't for the hurricanes, I'd definitely opt for the Caribbean.

Finally, I think it's great that the two of you are travelling somewhere. The time together is invaluable.
