I doubt my family's going to fork over 1000s of dollars for me to go to China. Does anyone have any ideas of some ways to raise money?

  1. My son just got back from one of those - we live in West Virginia and he only went to California, but he said it was the best expience of his life thus far.

Have you applied for one of their scholarships?

If you have to raise money, right now is a good time to recycle aluminum (not only cans, but if you know a contractor or construction worker, they can give you old aluminum siding, gutters, etc.)

You can make up a science project board with information on it (make sure your picture is in the middle) - take it to local banks, businesses, etc. and ask if they will sponsor you.  Explain to them that if they do, when you return, you will add their business name to your project board and put an article in the local papers about their support - It's good PR and now is the BEST time to ask for that because July starts the new fiscal year for most businesses.  I would start off asking for $100 or more from each business, but you could always negotiate down from there.  You will likely get at least $25-$50 from each one.

Of course you can always ask family members to help you - giving you $$$ instead of Christmas/birthday gifts

You could get a part-time job

  2. I have several proven and effective ways to raise funds for your project. One of the best is a web based promo fundraiser site that costs you nothing to set up and use, ever, all the money generated is yours to use as needed. Email me at ds_music_now@yahoo.com, or check the link below....

  3. First of all, this is a wonderful opportunity.  Have you applied for one of their scholarships?

If you can round up a group of friends to help, a car wash/ bake sale can make quite a bit of cash. Offering services such as dog walking, babysitting, etc. , often works well. Advertise on your local craigslist. The most important thing is to get the word out that you are hoping to go and need to raise the money usually around 7-8000.00.  Give an interview with the local paper, be sure to ask the readers to send you one dollar.  You would be surprised how quickly it adds up.  Contact local business , schools, civic groups and ask for donations.  Tell them you will do a presentation of your trip as a thank you for helping you reach your goal.  Post, post, and post again what you are willing to do to attain your goal.  Give a brief explanation of the trip.  Remember to send thank you's to all who donate and have a good time.
