  1. Check out these two web sites:

    http://groups.yahoo.com/group/1001books/

    http://www.booksamaritan.com/

  2. Glencoe literature features study guides for certain books: http://www.glencoe.com/sec/literature/li...

Just choose 6-7 of the books and complete the in-depth study guide.

  3. Lightning Lit has some good lit courses, and IEW has incredible options for writing.  There are, of course, also programs like BJU and A Beka.

Another option is to download a syllabus from a university you respect and follow it (freshman lit or comp) - many of them can be found online.

  4. The public school in our area requires British Literature and  a Senior Project.  The Senior Project is a term paper.  The seniors do research, a written paper, and a formal presentation.  They follow rules, such as the written paper is in MLA style.  The formal presentation requires the students to give an oral report using powerpoint, pictures, video, or anything that makes this an effective presentation of their research.

I don't trust wikipedia for many answers, but this one looks 'right on'.

  5. Check Half.com or Amazon.com.  They both sell used books.

  6. NARHS suggests reading 12 classics and writing a report about each one.  It's simple and inexpensive.  You can get lists of classics by googling, and then get them out of the library.

    Good luck :D

  7. You really don't need to buy a curriculum or books.  Go to your state's department of education and you can see the list of expected learning and find lesson plans.  This is the link for Alabma's 12th grade English:  http://alex.state.al.us/standardAll.php?...

You will find many, many lesson plans for each learning objective.  As mentioned by someone else, you can go to the public library to obtain the needed books and reference materials.

If you go to the National Endowment for the Humanities website called "Summertime Favorites" and use the high school list for literature you will have a great list.

    http://www.neh.gov/projects/summertime-9...

Lesson plans are readily available online for all these books/plays/poems.

Another resource is the Webquest Portal from San Diego State University.  Here is a list of Webquests for high school English:  http://www.webquest.org/search/webquest_...

"A WebQuest is an inquiry-oriented lesson format in which most or all the information that learners work with comes from the web."  It is an excellent method of incorporating technology in a useful way.

  8. Have you tried the public library? The Book Samaritan supplies books to students in need but there is a deadline for applications each year
