I don't know much about history, but I know that some people on this site do - does anyone have any examples at all about how, when the people of a country lose their freedom, even a little bit, how that escalates down into tyranny? I'm looking for specific examples, like the Soviet Union or something. Thanks!

  1. How about Cuba. These people were free for many years until the Castro fiasco initially backed by the United States. These people were under a dictator and they were replaced by another dictator. The United States should have invaded Cuba and made it a state. Russia would not have made a move.

  2. hitler, castro, qaddafi, stalin, idi amin, mao, pol pot, etc all first put  extreme restrictions on freedom of speech and then by taking common weapons of the era and region.

I believe that most tyrants have these two things in common.  That is not to say, however, that a loss of guns or freedom of speech will result in a tyranny, but it makes the progression a lot easier for the tyrant.
