Question:

Does anyone have any experience with Electrical Skirting Board Heating?

I've recently moved house, and the flat I now live in has ceiling heating, which as well as being a very strange idea from a convection point of view, seems to cause issues with the plaster on the ceiling. I've heard of skirting board heating, which sounds ideal, but I can't find much info on an electric (rather than water) version. Does anyone know if "electric skirting heating" is a cost efficient option / have any experience of this type of heating / know where it can be purchased in the UK?

Thanks in advance for your help,

JB

  1. Hello JB, I must first declare an interest as I actually market compact electrical skirting systems in Cyprus, Greece and Ireland and have an associate company called Radgone that is introducing the product to the UK.

The product is called Climaboard, it is of Italian origin and is very cost effective, both in terms of installation and operation.

Based on the use of electrical resistance elements inserted into 15mm copper pipes mounted in a special heating-grade aluminium skirting profile, Climaboard dry electrical systems are especially suited to situations where there is no mains gas or the building design and construction cannot incorporate wet systems.

The dry electrical system runs very efficiently at 200W/meter, using about 25 to 30% less energy than radiators to heat a room to a comfortable level. The additional cost of the elements works out less than the cost of an equivalent output boiler. Climaboard replaces ordinary skirting and with no floor slab to heat, it responds very quickly to changes in required temperature, needing less energy than under floor systems to reach the desired temperature.

It takes advantage of one of the laws of physics known as the ‘Coanda Effect’ in which the tendency of moving fluid is to follow a nearby surface – in this case the wall. With its system of twin 15mm copper pipes connected to aluminium fins by means of close-fitting flanged joints, electric Climaboard delivers heat energy in an extremely efficient manner. Comfort is felt even at relatively low air temperature, making the system very cost-effective to run.

Easy to install and measuring just 140 mm high by 30 mm wide, it attaches to walls in place of ordinary skirting, neatly hiding its active convector elements behind the front panel.

The supplier in the UK is called Radgone, their website is listed below.

Hope this helps and that I don't get into trouble for suggesting a product in which I have an interest.
