Question:

Does anyone have any experience with like-linen disposable tablecloths?

I'm having an outdoor wedding in SC and some friends from Louisiana (where I grew up) are volunteering to make cajun food for the reception (including gumbo). Gumbo has a bad tendency to stain linen so I'd like to use something disposable so I don't have to rent and then have to pay extra because the linens were stained. I found a website that offers a "like linen" paper alternative. I was wondering if anybody has used these. If so, was the quality actually decent and how bad were the creases from folding? (I'm assuming they can't be ironed.)

I'd like to get two for each table, an ivory and a brown and layer them, but as you have to buy them by a case I'd rather not make a purchase without knowing what I'm working with.

  1. I did something similar  for my sister. She had a black & white color sceme so I went to a fabric store bought black linens for the bottom layer & wen't to a local party store called ''Party City'' & bought the white disposable ones for the top layer. It look really nice & with everything it only cost me about $60. Also it didn't look cheap.

HOPE THIS HELPS, GOOD LUCK & CONGRATS ON FINDING THAT SPECIAL SOMEONE TO SPEND THE REST OF YOUR LIFE WITH!!!

  2. All the linen like means is that they have the look of a woven texture to them, they aren't cloth, they are plastic with a pattern stamped on to them.  Personally I think I'd call a craft or party store and ask if they carry these type of tablecloths and then purchase one to see for yourself if it is something you'd be happy with. Also find out what kind of price they would give you on purchasing a bulk amount - it may be better than online with the shipping, etc.

Check in to places that sell 'aisle runners' which are nothing more than the same plastic that is used for disposable tablecloths, but on a roll. There are runners that come in a 'lace' pattern and others that may have a 'linen' look weave. The lace one especially would work nicely if you want to put a darker color underneath.

Another option would be to visit your local fabric store to see if they have something that would be suitable, and inexpensive so that if you need to just pitch it it's not that big of a deal, while still getting the 'fabric feel' to it. If you ask, they will know of someone who would be willing to sew some seams and hems for you.

    Good Luck and Congratulations.
