I was on my school's JV team and the competition is getting a little tougher. I played club volleyball and definitely think i got better; especially my serves but they are still somewhat unpredictable. If anyone has any tips on setting, serving, everything, i would really appreciate it.

  1. serving~

make your shoulders face the way you want the ball to go

and dont toss it too high; it could throw you off.

  2. first off congrats on the serving.

passing- keep your arms straight if you bend them the ball will fly

setting-if your a righty when the ball goes up take to steps left then right and bend your knees as the ball comes down.

if your a lefty just step with your right foot first.

spiking-APPROACH!!!! if your a righty - step left right together and jump swing your arms for more height

serving-dont toss the ball to high. if you do it sometimes makes you hit it a little off because you wait to long to hit it.

    other than that keep practicing.

    go to camps this summer

start running-it gets your legmuscles ready to jump

    conditioning helps a lot to.

    good luck

  3. setting: bend your legs as you push the ball upward and outward... also hold the ball in your hands so you have made a triangle with your thumb and index fingers, using only your finger tips, ( the pinky stablizes the ball and guides it) push the ball forward using your legs...

passing: bend your knees so you are in a spread leg squat position with one leg slightly infront of the other. make a fist with your right hand and  cup your left hand around the knuckles of your right hand so your thumbs are touching and parallel. your forarms should be even. when the ball comes to you hit it in the middle of the section between your elbow and wrist. shrug your shoulders as you push the ball, use your legs to help.

on serving, i just serve, i've tried to help people but they never catch on...my serves are pretty consistant but it's the way i do it, you develop your own unique way of serving...

  4. when you spike, right before you jump torque up your body and twist, so that when you're in the air, turn your upper body and hit as powerfully as possible. when digging/passing make sure to use your forearms, not wrists or elbows. [i hate at the beginning of volleyball season when your arms have to get used to taking all the hits from the ball and they're really sore and red, but it goes away] when serving, when you toss the ball up, let it roll off your fingers to put a forward spin on it, and when you hit it, it will go over the net, and take a dive toward the ground, hopefully earning you an ace. no particular advice for jump serving, it's really hard, just practice practice practice. when setting, put your hands together like you're making a diamond [the sign jay-z makes or whatever] and dont push the ball with your palms, bend your knees, thrust up, and flick your wrists while setting with your fingertips. hope this helps, good luck bro!

  5. when you serve the best thing to do is aim for the white band right at the top of the net. i do this all the time and the results? countless aces :].

when you bump make sure you swing as little as possible, keep your arm outstretch and stong/rigid as possible and your squat should be as low as possible. remember to bend and bounce your knees up to propel that ball up. and i have to restate this again TRY NOT TO SWING!

when you're setting. loosen up as much as possible but keep your fingers strong as possible. also always keep your right foot slightly infront of your left (that is if you're a righty if not, do the opposite). you want to position yourself where if you were to let the ball smack you it would land right on your forehead and bounce right back. also when you set push the palms of your hand back as flat as possible (this will greatly reduce doubles) and absorb some of the impact (also decreases doubles) by moving with the ball down a little and then push out and flick that wrist. and don't forget to bounce with your legs it makes setting A LOT easier.

when you spike you want a really good approach (right, left, right-left jump) and swing down as hard as you can on top of the ball and remember to follow through.

  6. Setting: practice with a beach ball and some leg exercises.

    Surving: some arm exercises

  7. setting- use you legs

serving- reach for the ball and follow though

    passing- get underneath the ball

spiking- jump and hit it has hard as you can!!

good luck you will do fine!
