Does anyone have any good lunch box ideas?

My dad and brother work all day every day and have jobs that require a lot of energy

They both have really unhealthy diets though, like take out food and microwavable junk which is really bad for them

They have both worked for ever so they're bored of taking sandwiches to work

Does anyone have some ideas of something they could take to work instead?

There is a microwave in work so they have the option to warm stuff up

Any ideas appreciated

Thanks in advance!

  1. Beer, with a side order of....more beer!

  2. Maybe they could take turkey wraps. Just take a whole wheat tortilla and spread a little light mayo on it. Then put some lettuce and turkey in. Roll it up and you can hold it together with a toothpick. They could also put some baked lays chips or fruit in their lunch bag. Or maybe some veggies like celery and carrots with some light ranch dipping sauce. And for a drink they could pack a bottle of water or some iced tea. If they want a little dessert they could put in a cookie. Hope my advice helps!

  3. Leftovers would be the best replacement for junk food and packaged microwaveable dinners, but with less preservatives.

Carbohydrates like rice, noodles, spaghetti, and beans are good slow producers of energy that can be cooked in bulk and thus provide leftovers.

Sandwiches can vary, so that instead of always lunch meat on white bread they can try tuna without mayonnaise on french or italian bread, ham on bagels, bean and cheese burritos, hamburgers, chicken strips in pita bread, or crackers with tuna, peanut butter, or turkey and cheese.

Fruit like apples and raisins can provide some natural sugars and not spoil easily so they would be good replacements for bags of chips.

Vegetables like a carrot, a pickle, 1/4 cucumber, a celery stalk, or broccoli would be acceptable if not overdone like 3 carrots every Monday.

Nuts such as peanuts, cashews, pistachios, pecans, and walnuts can be another occasional alternative to chips to provide good sources of healthy energy.

Popcorn is another occasional filler but for plenty of energy, would need to be complemented with foods high in sugars such as apples, grapes, or a dessert like cookies or pudding.

  4. easy mac or chef boyardee

    that stuff is good

or they could have some turkey wraps

  5. if they work near a Subway's, order in a few minutes ahead for them and let them just pick up their order.  Subway's i think is less expensive now too.  You may save money in the long run.

  6. To change up sandwiches I make them on a bagel (onion flavor or an everything) or an english muffin. You could also try making hot sanwhiches, ham and cheese, tuna melts, roast beef and chedder. I also like to make a lot of hotdishes. They are easy to sneek veggies in. Tatortot hotdish with green beans and corn, beef stew is easy to heat up in a microwave. Good Luck!

  7. i love taking my leftovers to work the next day.  whatever i cook for dinner, i make double, that way i can eat it for lunch.

  8. any left overs are great. But I would suggest if they are tired of the same ole same ole..

    1. Make steak/chicken fajita's the night before, wrap them up and they can re-heat the next day with a side of spanish rice. That's hearty.

    2. Chili w/ crackers, and cut up apples with cinnamon/sugar sprinkled on them.

    3. Sheppards Pie - again make night before - they can have that for a few days.

    4. Make toast, get thick sliced ham and cheese - put in seperate bags, when it's time for lunch they can put it together, and have a hot toasted ham and cheese..

    5. this is a meal in itself. Take baked beans, add cooked ground sausage, 1 bell pepper, 1 onion, 1/2 cup of brown sugar, a little bit of BBQ sauce. Bake for about 45 mins until bubbly. Always better the next day.
