I'm starting high school on the 18th, and I'm going to be in the I.B. program. Does anyone have any advice, tips for foreign language and maybe even a school supply list?

Thank you!

  1. in high school, the teachers usually give you a list of specific things you'll need for their classes within the first week. if you want to get some of the shopping out of the way now, stock up on your basics - folders, pens, pencils, highlighters, notebooks, loose leaf, and a calculator.

foreign language - it's not too hard. just remember to study, and review the classwork. flash cards are a GREAT tool to use when studying a foreign language. and, if you feel like you're falling behind, talk to the teacher. languages are hard to keep up with if you miss a couple of days, so always try to pay attention in class, and take good, understandable, notes.

other advice - be yourself! have fun! try to make new friends, join a club, study hard, enjoy it!

make a "locker kit". use a small tin or pouch, etc. and fill it with extra helpful stuff. like -

-breath mints and minty gum (always handy - lol!)

-an extra lipgloss and eyeshadow (in case you forget yours, or didn't have time in the morning)

-5 extra dollars (lunch money, pay phone, buying a book for english class)

    -tampons/pads (just in case...)

-safety pins ( you never know...)

-a small deoderant and perfume (never wanna be stanky! lol!)

-a small lotion ( dry skin - eww. lol!)

-chapstick (kinda goes with the mints - lol!)

  2. Ok, I'm starting High School on the 11th (Mon) and am also going to be in the IB program and I just asked this question also lol.  Although I don't know much about High School because I haven't started it yet, I can tell you what other people told me.  For one, the first day is like a nothing day, pretty much you are introduced to the teachers and there's like no homework the first week.  I also was told that the IB program has about 3 hours of homework a night but that as long as you manage your time well you are fine.  Get involved in things you are intersted in like if you love to write (like me) join the journalism club or the school paper.  Or if you love theater join a play.  Pretty much I was told to be myself which is pretty obvious and kind of cruddy advice if you think about it like, "just do whatever it is you do" like duh.  So yeah,  my mom told me that high school was so much better than middle school because you have way more freedom and there's a lot more groups and people aren't so judgemental because everyone is sort of happy with who they are.

As for the foreign language, I am currently stuck between Chinese and Spanish so I can't give you much advice there, my first choice was Italian because, well, I am Italian and hope to go to Italy someday but they don't offer that at my school.

    Good Luck

Oh, as for a school supply list, every class in every school has it's own so maybe look online, we won't get ours till the first day of school so once again I won't be much help there (=, yes another one (= (= (=

  3. Get alot of notebooks. and prepare your fingers for hours of endless writing and typing. but its not all bad. this means more projects, more time to spend with friends. consider taking spanish, its easy for me. Oh, and here's a tip, if you join band, you dont have to go to PE!! (gym) yay!
