Does anyone have any ideas of where I can take my 11 year old son this school holiday in or around London?

We live in SE London and I have this week off work too. Some days out would be nice. My son is an active boy who likes to be out and about or doing things most of the time and we always seem to go to the same places. I'm just looking for a few ideas. Thanks

10 ANSWERS

  1. Greenwich

Museum and Observatory and Park.     London  Aquarium

Tate Modern     Trip on Docklands Light Railway sitting in the front seat   London Eye

  2. !. The london dungeon, i loved it at that age

    2. Alexander palace, Has a ice rink and newly built skate parl

    3. Trocadero, In the west end, has everything an 11 year old could want

    4. Chessington, its not a million miles away and still great

    5. Camden town, plenty of shops and stalls..alot to see

  3. The aquarium is awesome!

  4. The London dungeon is pretty good if he does not get scared easily and is in for a shock!!

However on busy days queues get pretty big!!!

  5. London Eye, with a boat trip up the river, they do a combined ticket i think.

Museums abound, the Natural History Museum is brilliant,

Science Museum, not dry and dusty, but fascinating

The Globe theatre, give him a taste of Shakespeare's plays and life in Elizabethan times. More interesting than perhaps it sounds

Hamleys best toy store in London, you don;t have to buy, looking is so much fun

    Aquarium on South bank

Pictures galore. most in West End.

    Covent Garden for street entertainment

    you name it, it;s there.

  6. Wndsor Castle,  Hampton Court, Kew Gardens, Zoo..Tower of London....Madam Tassaudes....Theme Park,  Acquarium, art galleries, Legoland...Big eye in London,  theatre     St James's park where there is a large selection of birds in a lake in front of Buckingham Palace.....Horseguards Parade and the changing of the guard at 11am.  Houses of Parliament....A boat trip down the River Thames from Westminister Bridge.

  7. The Parks plus Hampstead Heath would be good for a young lad.  Some City Centre restaurants or coffee shops (bit pricey but again, the kids like this sort of thing).  A river boat trip, plus a go up the Monument for the views.

Avoid museums, except the National Gallery because it's free, as kids get bored easily.

    Have a nice holiday.

  8. What's your son into? I'd suggest The Natural History Museum. I don't know of a person who didn't love that place as a kid, or an adult for that matter...

  9. i took my boys age 11 and 9 to london last week for their half term.

They particuarly liked...madame tussauds, london eye, natural history museum and the lion king show. we also went to covent garden and saw a street show. they liked walking along the thames and watching london bridge go up (you can get itenary on line).

they found the science museum a bit boring, but they liked the big imax cinema in there and the simulator rides, but they cost extra. It was very busy with school trips and i think they didnt like it so much because they couldnt get to see the interactive stuff. they were bored stiff during changing of the guard as its hard to see and a very long process.

They were both scared stiff in the dungeons and my eldest held my hand all the way round even in the presence of older boys....and you know what they are like with their street cred!!

They loved going on the underground and seeing the new st pancras station and enjoyed doing the sites..big ben, westminster abbey, downing street etc

also we had a nice time in the park between horse guards and buckingham palace as there were really tame squirrels and pelicans. They also enjoyed hamleys.

if we had had more time and more cash mine would have liked to go to london zoo and to legoland.

have a great time, we had a fabulous but exhausting week.

  10. Maddam Tussaurds but be prepared to pay!
