The construction of the City Airport Terminal in Makkasan and a 28.6 km high-speed rail link to the new airport started in July 2005 and are planned for completion in May 2009. The airport express, informally known as the Pink Line and operated jointly with SRT's planned Red Line commuter service, will connect with the BTS Sukhumvit Line and MRT Blue Line at Phaya Thai and Phetchaburi stations respectively, offering airport-bound passengers a fast 15-minute limited stop journey from the city.

How much, is it getting near completion? I was in Bangkok June and Makkhasan didn't look any different.

  1. You been here long enough to know better.  Last June the Saphan Taksin line was to be completed into Thonburi, the last story I hear was they had to test the line which would take 6 months.  Still waiting.  May 2009 means October 2011or maybe in time for The Kings 90's birthday celebration.

The last thing I could find on the skytrain is a year away from being completed. bet on more delays.  here's the story

  2. I drive past the Petchaburi station almost everyday and drove past the Makkasan station yesterday, it sure doesn't look to me like they'll have it completed by the end of the year to begin testing. They are making progress, but there's a lot more work to do although the stations are really starting to take shape. The elevated rail lines look to be nearly complete. I believe the plan is to open the Makkasan station by mid 2009 and complete the remainder of the project at a later date, I suppose it's possible but it doesn't look likely to me.
