Does anyone have any information on whats going on with the television broadcasting?

In 2009 all televisions will have to be changed from analog to digital. I watched a documtentary on this in my government class. The documentary talked about how there was this load of money that could be used to either pay off Americas debt or to give to the big broadcasting companies. There was a vote, but because the media didn't inform the american public, no one showed up to vote. So the money went to the broadcasting companies. Has anybody else seen this documentary? Or have any additonal information about this?

The part about moving to digital in 2009 is true and the rest is bunk.

They're basically moving to digital because it takes up less bandwidth that they can use for other things like Police, Fire, Military or other public services.  If you remember communication was one of the biggest problems after Katrina and I know because I was there for 2 weeks just after it happened.  We NEED those frequencies!

The rest regarding the big $$$ for the Govt is nothing but theory.
