I recieved a plant as a gift but have no idea how to properly care for it. So I was wondering what kind of plant it was. It has 5 stems /roots all twisted together to resemble a braid. it has leaves similar to a ficus but not as rubbery. I got it in a small pot, its for sure no more than 10in. Horrible details, I know, but if anyone can help, Thanks!

  1. It may be what is called a chinese money tree.  Having them in your home is said to bring prosperity, much like the red front door. If it is, they can be a little finicky.

  2. hey!

I did some research for ya and i do know what it is..(hope so).  its called Pachira aquatica but known as " braided bonsai money plant tree". The tree is part of the ficus, its mainly used to give as a gift to bring good luck in bringing money to ones home, basically wealth. here are two links that will help. also the page for wikipedia has a image on the plant, maybe this will help.

  5. Ficus is the only plant I've ever seen braided like that.  Ficus trees don't have rubbery leaves, but they are shiny and dark green..

  6. owning a few myself if in a small pot i would go with ficus. when they are young the leaves are lighter and softer so i would bet on the ficus  nancy ga.
