My mate and i have wanted to make a boat for a while and i was informed by another answer that it would be a bit too hard and expensive. So does anyone have any plans, (step by step instructions would be great) that we would be interested in, we are both 13 and it needs too be easy to make and really practical. We plan to take it out on the bay and it needs room for oars and fishing rods, (a lunch compartment would be handy as well). Please if anyone has anything that is easy to build and will only take us the christmas please answer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This link might help you with some ideas.

If both of you are 13, you might have trouble coming up with the money for even the most basic boat. Marine supplies can be pricey (caulking, etc.).

Just be careful, a couple of my childhood buddies drowned messing around with a boat. Just make sure you have floatation devices if you do make a boat.

You should understand the basics of boating safety before you go for it.

  3. There are numerous plans for canoes, pirogues, john boats, dingys and other boats available on the internet.  Search "boat plans" or look at boat building books at Amazon or Powells.

For your first effort, I'd recommend you "keep it simple".  Perhaps a john boat with a bit of rocker designed in would work.  You need to think about the carrying capacity as well as the finished weight and cost.
