  1. Yeh!!! Stay Away From The Ball......

  2. If you have a chance to practice on a full size sand court with 6 vs 6 DO IT.  A full size sand court was built for the '72 olympic team where I worked and we played 3 times a week.  This was before sand (beach) volleyball was popular.  This will automaticly increase you foot speed and help with reaction.  You can't move as fast on sand but once you do this a solid court seems like a breeze.

  3. Work on your defense; foot speed is key in volleyball to get your feet / body in the correct position.  You can do ladder drills, dot drills, and plyometrics to help make you faster.  Learn to read the hitter and get around your block to open parts of the court where a hitter could place the ball.

Offense - Make sure you jump with both arms and not just one.  Too many young athletes only jump and extend one arm while keeping the other locked in tight to your body.  This causes you to lean to one side and throw your body out of balance.

  4. Play Smart

    1. Mix your hits and dings (line and cross court.)

    2. Serve to their weakest passers (preferably to the left side of the court, this forces the ball to travel to the backside of the setter.)

    3. Square your shoulders to the directions you are hitting, passing, and setting.

    4. Keep your eyes on the ball and not the hitter when blocking.

    5. Get all your teammates involved and not just the go to person!

    Good Luck!
