Does anyone have any positive experiences working for PIRG?

I have a second interview for a fellowship with the PIRG. I have found a lot of negative stuff in forums about the PIRG, but they are all relating to canvassing, which is not what I am interviewing for. These posts are a red flag to me though. The job description looks really great, but I'm concerned about the negative posts. In addition, during the first interview the man I was speaking to told me that hours could sometimes be 50-80 hours/wk with a salary of less than $24,000/year. So I would like to know if there is anyone out there who has had a good experience with PIRG. I am willing to sacrifice money and long hours for two years of my life if it will be a good experience that can advance my career.

and it passed now you get 5 cents for empties and there is less trash in the streets

  2. PIRG is not a job one should look at as a career, but more like a peace-core and the like.  PIRG is all about bringing chance to a society that has a hard time with it and a corporate controlled government that refuses to unless its all about making a profit for wall-street.  You do realize that PIRG was started Nader and it's first initiatives were for placing seat belts in cars and inflammable baby clothes.

Canvasing is a important part of the political spectrum, mainly because it gets you out with the public so one can interact with it and understand the mood and obstacles that society faces you with.

  3. I have had several friends who worked for PIRG and all hated it.  No matter what position you are hired for they will make you canvass anyway at least some of the time.  I have never heard anything good about anyone's experience with PIRG.
