We would like to see the 'real Cuba', however don't necessarily want to spend the whole time travelling from one place to another.

  1. Havanalover and Richard K know have given you excellent information. But I will say this, even though you may choose to stay at a resort, just getting to know the Cuban staff working at the resort will give you a taste of the 'real Cuba' too. They are who they are and don't hide their true selves.

Or you can choose to stay at a Casa Particular (at a private home that is rented out to people). They are safe, clean and in good condition. You can get to know what living in Cuba is like and go about throughout the city.

As for travel, if you don't feel like going all over the place but want to really see Havana, then you can either stay right in the city and travel out to nearby areas...or you can locate yourself in other cities that are close to Havana.

Nearby are Pinar del Río, Matanzas, and Varadero.

There is also Península de Zapata where the Great Natural Park of Montemar is. It's located in the Ciénaga de Zapata Reserve of the Biosphere. It has multiple specialties of nature tourism; though there are here many spaces of interest for those who rather go open sea diving or speleodiving in sunken caves.

The links below will give you guides about hotels, restaurants to try and sites to see.

Two weeks is good time for enjoying a part of Cuba...try to not cram your itinerary so that you can savour and enjoy all you do.

For sure you will be going back after this trip...and then you'll be able to enjoy other sites you have not seen.

    Have a wonderful time.

  2. If you want to see the real Cuba, Havana is a must to see.

With nearly 3 mil. citizens the biggest concentration of Cubans. Havana has great beaches too 20 km from the centre. see

Starting from Havana you can make trips to Pinar del Rio,

Vinales or to Varadero if you like a tourist resort.

But the main attraction is Havana with its rich historical past,

the salsa dancing , visit the local Cuban bars in Havana , the fruit market, the meat market, the Cuban are a kind people

  3. it depends... are you cuban?... if so, from what area, you can't see the entire island in 2 weeks, so you need to decide what part of the country you want to visit. If you have a lot of money to spend, I recomend VARADERO BEACH, you can have a lot of fun as a turist in a real beautifull place... or if you don't want to spend a lot of money and you have any friends or relatives, go to their places, that's when your gonna have a lot of fun!!!

About the flights to Havana...  Americana Airlines from Miami to Cancun and Mexicana de Aviasion from Cancun to Havana, there's a few flights a day to both destinations.

    Good luck and have fun.

  4. It is still illegal for an American citizen to travel to Cuba. If your not an American have a blast.

  5. There is so much to see.  Since you are going  for two weeks to Havana that allows you time to  explore.  Check the sites below, you will find lots of good info.
