  1. Stay away from anacondas.

  2. First you have to decide which cities are you going to visit in order to get an idea of time and money.

    My choices would be:

Lima - your international flight is going to arrive there. Spend at least 5 days, this is the right place to organize what you are going to do. Go to museums (I recommend Larco Museum - www.museolarco.org) to get the big picture of pre-columbian Peru and choose the sites you MUST go. Check out colonial churches and modern Lima, the local food is excellent and if you forgot anything at home you will have access to anything.

Trujillo y Chiclayo - north coast of Peru, cradle of two of the most famous ancient civilizations - Mochica and Chimu (visit Museo Sipan, Museo Sican, huaca del sol y la luna, Chan Chan). The weather is great in the north, so get to the beaches! If you have time, go even further - Tumbes city has the best beaches to relax and have fun.

Central Coast and Highlands - Look out in google for this 3 names: Caral, Huaraz and Chavin.

Caral is near Lima (central coast) and it was a religious center for preceramic cultures of the area. Really  impressive - over 50 pyramids from that time. Then get your bus and go to Huaraz, on the highlands. Trekking is the best plan there, and this part of the Andes is breathtaking. Go to check out the temple of Chavin, stone temple from 2500 bc. Impressive.

Ussually people go to Peru because of Cusco and Machu picchu at the southern highlands but if you have the time, don´t miss the north of Peru. Then go to the south!

  3. Get a backpack and some good shoes. Bring a compass.

  4. Don't drink the water.
