Question:

Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do if school uniforms are too small in size 7 but too big in 8?

My son is going into first grade and we cannot find any shorts that will fit right. He can wear an 8 slim in Levi's 550s jeans just fine. But when you buy boys' clothes, the departments everywhere run from sizes 2-7 and then 8-20. But everywhere we've been, you compare a 7 and an 8 and there is like a 3 1/2" difference in the waist going from a 7 to an 8. Does anyone know what I can do?

I know there are some 7x sizes, but not in uniform (they have to be plain khaki style shorts w/no cargo pockets or carpenter loops in navy or khaki only) stuff. I have been to Dillard's, Macy's, Old Navy, JCPenney's, Kohl's, Sears, and Walmart.

I ordered from Ralph Lauren online and had the problem there too. Also a problem with the shirts skipping from size 7 in boys to size Small in bigger boys... they gain about 4" just in length (the arms and chest are fine though).

I did buy some Dockers shirts in size XS tonight and they are perfect. But I could only find two colors and need a couple more colors at least. Can't find them online though.

Help! I don't know what to do about the bottoms... I don't want to have to alter something.

Thanks!

  1. alteration shop

  2. get 8 and tailor them, a tailor may even be able to make waist adjustable so you can make them tighter and looser as you need.  Also try childrens place they make pants with elastic in them so the waist can be pulled tighter with buttons

  3. i would say get size eight because he is going to grow into them anyways.  If it is such a big difference, you could always get them tailored to fit him just right.
