Does anyone have any tips on getting a carpool started?

I'm sure it's a simple thing to do, but I have never carpooled to and from work before. I was wondering if anyone might have any tips, suggestions, what to look out for...any information that could help me convince my coworkers to start doing this to save us all money and gas.

  1. The price of GAS is still going up .Are you making more money than me? i would like to start a carpool with someone who works the same time as i do [put time in and if you are going to work overtime or not] i  live in [put where you live and how far you are willing to go out of the way to pick someone up and deliver them] aks them how much they are willing to pay and have your set limit.dont forget about insurance wear and tear{oil changes, tires ,milage that ill make your vehicle be worth less when you want to sell it} on your van car or whatever you will be driving and how many you are willing to drive.what kind of rules you want to have about time of wait at that persons house before you drive off and how long you are willing to wait for them to come out from work and where to meet them.you didnt say what kind of job that you have office work factory car salesman or what. rules are different for each job there is alot to think about. when do they pay you and if they dont pay you at that time do you drop them or will you wait for a day a week a month ????? GOOD LUCK

  2. If you work at a large company, I would think there would be a bulletin board of some sort.  Advertise on that asking for people in the general vicinity of where you live (or people on the way from where you live to where you work.)  Otherwise, try putting up ads on local grocery store bulletin boards looking for people to carpool with to the same general area in which you work.  You might try the same thing in the classified ads of your local newspaper.  It's a great idea.  I've done it and it saved me lots of money.

Another idea is (another thing I did) if you have to pay for a parking place where you work (like in a downtown area), find someone who lives on your way.  Let them pay for the parking place if you pick them up everyday.  Whatever helps.  Good luck.

  3. kudos for getting started !

try heading over to your specific counties website and look for the community transit links-there should be some great hints & contact #'s

and then there is craigslists , looking in your local area you may find some transit carpool vans that are going your way & only partially full -

  4. Get a DVD player and mini bar in the mini van.  Teachers need soothing too.
