I am a new teacher. I have been subbing for a year. This is my first classroom and it is a combined classroom. Something they sprung on me last minute. I am a little nervous. I did my student teaching in k and taught at my school for four months last year in the first grade room before getting hired in full time. I have 25 students so far. Split evenly 1/2 k and 1/2 1.

you can get much information in this website, stay a minute in website and check anyone link at a time, you can aslo get your answer in Google Search in this website, which has helped me alot

  2. Talk to your Principal or Lead teacher. Rely on the expertise of your classroom partner. Make sure you attend the grade level training since you are new  to the "combo" world. Where I work, my district never would have combined Kinder and First grade students. Maybe, they would have combined another grade level combo. Good Luck!

  3. Seat  them according to grade level for evaluation purposes. After you ascertain ability then get appropriate materials. Always work with your grade leader and fellow teachers on all levels. You may be promoted someday.

  4. you should do something both k and 1 can do, like reading small books, teaching how to read.  For 1st grade you should give them a different homewoek sheet that is harder(like harder math problems) than the k's homework sheet.  Teach them both math skills that both grades can do.

  5. I've never taught a combo class, but I do know from friends who have how important it is to stay organized.  Consider color coding everything, such as red for K and blue for first.  I know it's not much, but I really wish I had been more organized my first year.  Best of luck!
