We've had them since we moved in and the landlord has yet to help. They are overtaking the house and we keep it clean. We've tried sprays, powder and a tip to put vaseline around the inside of a bowl full of food crumbs. The theory was that the roaches would crawl in and not be able to get out. Didn't work. Help!! (We don't have the money for terminex or orkin right now). It's starting to get rediculous. Tks!!

  1. Please email me. I can tell you a surefire way to get rid of them, but because my response is so long, everytime I try to submit it, Yahoo says it's taking a breather. tvluvmee@yahoo

  2. No tips you get here will work unless All YOUR NEIGHBORS DO THE SAME. Roaches are an owners problem, not yours.

Don't waste your money on Orkin. Get your neighbors together and go to the health department

  3. Listen to me clearly.Go to the board of health if the lanlord wont help. The roach has been around for thousands of yrs and there is a reason for it.They are survivors .VERY VERY difficult to get rid of permanetly;your best bet is to move and get money for the possesions you will have to throw in the garbage due to roach infestation.they are disgusting filthy pests and you need to find a clean envirement free of them-its easier to miove but watch what you bring with you most of appliances you cannot!

  4. If you're renting, you can choose to handle this yourself, or get the local government involved.  Because, cockroaches are unsanitary, and the landlord is legally responsible for remediating the problem.  Having said that, it will be much easier and faster to handle it yourself.

In Walmart (because it's the cheapest place to buy anything) buy enough insect foggers to provide coverage for the square footage of the entire home.    If you can find it in your area, look for a brand called Spectracide.  When I lived in Maryland, it was the best available.  In Florida, I can't buy it here, where I've used Raid in the bright orange containers.  It's important to buy insecticide foggers that target the specific insect you want to get rid of.  So, be sure it's cockroaches you have.  There are at least 10 types of bugs that people often (incorrectly) refer to as cockroaches.  There's only 1 bug that's really called a cockroach.  Insecticide containers will sometimes include pictures.  Or, you can look up pictures online, to verify the type of bug you're targetting.

The insect foggers require you to leave the home for several hours.  If they're very thick in the walls, you'll come home to find live bugs crawling around, trying to escape the poison.  Grab a broom and knock them off the walls, and sweep them out the door.  Read the fogger container.  Look for an insecticide that will prevent eggs from hatching, so you won't have to re-fog in a week.  If you see more bugs, re-fog immediately.  They multiply amazingly fast.

  5. Go to a drug store and get some boric acid. Mince up some onions in a blender and mix the boric acid with it. Place in plastic bottle caps throughout the house in corners on the kithen countertop and floor. They will take the boric acid back to thier nest and die. You will have to clean out all cabinets and pantry to make sure they are no eggs. Clean under the kitchen sink really well. Do not store brown paper bags. They love those.

  6. roaches need a moisture source for survival-

so make sure that under the sinks, tubs, shower surrounds, dishwasher are not leaking or damp.

make sure that any debris immediately outside the house is minimized-this will reduce the number of roaches outside that may come inside.

check for gaps in the walls and floors and seal them with caulking.

buy roach proof (it is boric acid powder that is ready to use they have it at walmart and grocery stores)

put the roach proof along the backs of all cabinets closets, under refrigerator behind the stove...anywhere it will stay dry, along every floorboard.

as long as it stays dry it will work forever-if a roach walks through it it will kill it-they walk it back to their nest and die , also it works on other bugs crickets, spiders etc.

if your house has a crawl space you may need to bomb it,

    also basic housekeeping tips:

store all food in plastic air tight containers, also candles, and oils can be a food source or attractant for roaches.

some domiciles are prone to roach infestation and diligence is the only solution.

reapply the roach powder every time it gets damp.

    good luck

  7. assuming you mean the inch long "kitchen" roaches that you find in the cabinets and appliances and not the large outdoor roach coming in.... get the roach bait that comes in the large syringe (Combat is one).  place small dabs of bait where the roaches are hiding ..in corners..in cabinets around hinges.. under the appliances etc  avoid spraying so as to not to contaminate the bait. It will still take a couple of weeks for control but you will see results withing a few days
