  1. Train to Reggio di Calabria, ferry to Messina, bus to Milazzo, ferry (or hydrofoil in summer) to Stromboli.  More info on http://www.trenitalia.it  (click the English tab)

  2. Ever heard the phrase "All roads lead to Rome"?

With that in mind, I'd use the train - the bus is likely to be driven along roads, so you'll end up back where you started.

  3. by plane, from ROME to CATANIA (SICILY) and by bus from CATANIA to MILAZZO and by boat from MILAZZO to STROMBOLI

  4. It's a long and complicated trip in the winter. Many others have already given you the specifics. I am answering to say that you might want to wait until spring so you can go more directly.

  5. It's not that easy, especially in the winter. However:

the nearest airport is Reggio Calabria (but of course you could also go to Reggio Calabria by train, it takes a long time).

From the airport you could take a bus to Messina and from Messina a boat (called aliscafo) to Stromboli.

In the summer you can go to Naples or Civitavecchia and arrive directly to Stromboli.

    Have a nice trip!

  6. You don't need to go farther than your favorite Italian restaurant in Rome.  Just walk in, be seated and order your Stromboli!  Next thing you know, it's right there on your table ... no bus, no train!
