Does anyone have any trouble loading and installing microsofts windows Xp service pack3. My attempts fail.

I get an error message about 50 minutes into the download and installation. No reason as to what has gone wrong, just that.

is it the ultimate edition. It my be your drive. It has to be a very good multilayer dvd-rw to correctly read the disc.

For months and months the installation of sp3 failed. I do not know why.

I did not really mind, because I have seen a lot of askers here in Yahoo Answers, who had problems with sp3. Not lately however.

I formated my pc to reinstall windows xp home.yesterday. I do that about once every couple of months. I think ii  is fun to do and keeps me busy for about 10 hrs. ( I know I am crazy).

This time I got automatic update sp3. As I said, it always failed.

I let it go and surprise surprise, sp3 was installed. My pc works fine and sp3 does not give me any problems at all.

Did you try to install it manually or with automatic up dates.

When you have auto update switch on, I would just wait till auto update will install sp3.

SP3 is not really necessary, It does not speed up your pc, or gives it more protection. It was different with sp2. We were forced to install it, because SP1 was not longer supported by Microsoft. We needed to install sp2  to get the necessary updates, not to put our computer at risk

It's one of two things, either the download is corrupt or you have programs running in the background whilst it's installing. If I remember correctly when I did mine about 9 months ago [Beta edition] after I finished downloading I had to close all programs including my AV and disable the firewall so it could install. I have never had any problem with it since it has been installed.

I had no problems at all, everything has gone well for me.

No problem downloading it. No problems installing it, but mega-problems running it!

I went back to SP2.  Personally. I wouldn't bother with SP3, it doesn't offer enough to make it worthwhile!!
