  1. Hi andrea

The best starting point is to be aware of your budget. Have a look at what you would love to do for your big day and then work backwards, according to your budget, eliminating what you can't afford or don't necessarily need. A brilliant website that covers this is the Martin Lewis one. It is:

    themoneysavingexpert.co.uk

  2. have a buffet instead of a sit down meal. noone really wants to have 3 course meal. Buy invitations from a card shop.

If you really wanna save money try getting a second hand wedding dress or at least bridesmaids dresses. afterall theyve only been worn once before.

  3. Hi,

I got married last year and it was a fantastic day which didnt cost the earth but was just as good as any other weddings ive been to. First tip is shop around....never ever say yes to the first venue, cake, dress etc. Make sure you have considered all available options. I used ebay for invitations etc and got them for a fraction of the price. I also bought my bridesmaids dresses off the peg from debenhams (they have some beautiful ones) I also used next for my little brides maids as they have a gorgeous occasion wear section. See if you can borrow certain things, I borrowed my wrap which i was glad about since it was so hot i didnt wear it anyway! I also had less guests at my daytime do than alot of people. It was really intimate and relaxed. There were 34 of our closest family and friends so we could afford top notch food for our special guests. We had a much bigger party at night tho. My biggest money saver was to ask people very politely for money rather than a gift we then used this to pay off the credit cards we had run up for the wedding....not very romantic but very practical.

Hope you have a fantastic day!!

  4. 1.  We got married in a Register Office on a Monday morning, with a dozen family & friends.  One made us a cake and we had booked a large table at a local steak bar.

Had a fantastically intimate and fun meal, after which we were escorted by the whole crowd to the local railway station, drowned with confetti and pushed onto our train for a fortnight in a lovely little hotel in Cornwall.

I really couldn't have wished for anything better (I made my own dress, by the way, in the palest of blue because it was my husband-to-be's favourite colour), and bought blue shoes to match - I still have them.

We celebrate our 49th wedding anniversary next month.

    2.  My daughter decided to get married with sand between her toes and she got married on a Caribbean Island (St. Thomas).  Just closest of family and friends flew out - we shared a couple of large villas.  My daughter is always telling people that she took her parents on honeymoon, but she and her new husband left us to go to a neighbouring island after the reception.  The reception, again about a dozen of us, was held in a friendly restaurant and we all walked through the streets to get there, being cheered and applauded as we followed the bride and groom.

By marrying on the island, the couple had their dream honeymoon "thrown in" and those of us who went out had an experience we just would not have had otherwise.

  5. My wedding:

    £50 dress in the sale

£100 on buffett (friends made sandwiches etc and bought from supermarket).

£50 Church, got friend to play organ.

£50 flowers, made all arrangements and bouquets myself

£10 printed invitations and thank you notes on computer

£ 15 made cake and had friend ice it for free as wedding present

had champagne as wedding present for toasts and had reception in friends large garden

It was a lovely day, very informal and relaxed and also fun.

  6. Ebay! And making things yourself, like the invitations, boquets, table centres, etc, etc.

  7. saving account.

they take certain amount of maney out of you bank balance no matter waht happens or untile u have no money left in your account lol

  8. Set up you budget.  determine how much -- at the most -- you are willing to spend.  Cut and trim your plans to fit. All you really need for a wedding is a license, a bride, a groom, an official, maybe a couple of witnesses.  Anything beyond that is really excess.  I think massive, expensive weddings are silly.

  9. The best advice in this day and age is to find an attorney who can draw up a good prenuptual agreement at an economical price

  10. Try visiting this online forum http://www.weddingcup.com. Since it is focused on wedding, you have a better chance to find your answer there. This is a common place for couples and wedding professionals to exchange their ideas. You can search for similar question, post your questions there or chats with others who seek the same interests.

  11. My best saving on my wedding day 2 months ago.....although I saved on everything.....was the wedding cake.  I was quoted £295 just for the bottom tier simply decorated with a few cream and gold flowers.  I was 'gob-smacked!!!'

I searched the net and found wedding cakes....fruit or sponge at Tesco and M&S.  I bought the fruit bottom size tier already iced for less than £13 and on a silver cake board (you can buy 3 different sizes costing less than £25 for all three tiers!). Then I ordered some flowers made out of icing for less than £6 off the net - even with free postage! Added some gold ribbon 90p and 2 new 'gold' (curtain) rings.....total cost less than £20......the cake was absolutely fabulous!!! Thats my best money saving tip.

  12. Do consignment. I know a great website that has beautiful new and used wedding gowns, boys tuxes for, flower girl dresses, bridesmaid dresses, veils, and more and you can rent it all at great prices, they will even work with your budget. Check it out at www.shellyleppertdesigns.com

  13. Registry Office. Saves a fortune!

  14. For your decorations, try finding someone who rents the decorations out of their home (try kijiji) - I'm saving a bundle this way. Also, I'm buying all the food myself and hiring people to help prepare and serve the food - again, saving a bundle on this as well. I'm expecting the cost of the food + service to cost me about a quarter to a third of what most places would charge.

Whatever you do, don't make your own invitations (I made that mistake, and with the cost of all the materials + the time it took to do it all, I don't think I saved anything, really). If I had to do it over, I would just order them. Also, the favors will save you money to do yourself, but figure out what you want that won't use a lot of expensive materials.

Also, I'm getting my flowers done at the grocery store - TONS cheaper!

  15. buy a second dress and do it up the way you want it .ive bee n married three times for two of the wedding i worn the same dress just redid it up.sister in law did flower and buffet, bridesmaids parent brought there dresses nothing to fancy brought botton holes just for close family price round for a big reception room that you can use all day if need .if need a dj see if a friend knows someone who can do cheap for full day or just night.if you know someone with a big posh car see if they will take the bridesmaid/pageboys to the church and come back for the groom and best man and then for the bride and her dador who ever is giveing her away and offer him petrol/diesil money and buy them a couple of pints if there not driving after.

  16. depends on what kind of wedding you are looking for.

we had a student photographer. it was great for her too cause it helped her build up a portfolio. we got out flowers from sams. 13 dozen roses and they were gorgeous.

and we had steaks and chicken buffet style with a guy i piad to grill. and i paid 2 family friend teens to wash dishes and stuff for 200.00.

we had a nice wedding with about 90 people. but we were on a budget since we just bought a house.

we spent more on our honeymoon. and that was totally worth it

  17. look for flowers on freshroses.com...just pick your wedding month and they will show you all the different flowers available then. they are very cheap and they are so fresh! they come in just a few days before the wedding and dont even need to be refrigerated.

also, look at David's Bridal. they have beautiful gowns and they have good sales. they also have dresses for the wedding party and matching accessories for any wedding colors.

Hobby Lobby is also a great place to get all kinds of things for weddings. watch for their 50% off sales. they put candles and wedding decorations on sale a lot. they also have columns and candleabras for rent for good prices.

Hope some of this might help!
