My son is 6 months old and I've noticed when he has not had good naps during the day that he will wake up about an hour after putting him down at night and start screaming and crying. When we go in to check on him, he's rolling around and screaming but he's not awake. We can't wake him up when he's like this we just have to wait about 15 minutes. It doesn't happen very often but what research I've done suggests night terrors. But what I've also read says he's too young to have them. Anyone else have younger babies that have similar episodes?

  1. I agree, take the child to a pediatrician, and maybe a child pyschologist.

If he starts screaming, compfort him, let him know your there.

  2. If it becomes habitual you have to wake him before the night terrors commence (maybe just disturbing his sleep lightly might work)

  3. It is true to some extent that the baby is too young to have them or to be in the stance of terror.  Yet there is a great possibility of it to have been affected due to mother's knight mares etc., during the period of her pegnancy.  The child starts hearing after three months during the process of his/her development inside the womb.  That would mean that any pregnant lady (after three months) suddenly waking up midnights screaming and yelling terrified by the bad dreams and/or knight mares, the baby's mind would certainly be affected by hearing the monther's screams and yelling.  Therefore, it would take the baby quite some time to be out of the stance.  There is nothing to worry about.

  4. Its normal. My baby is 4 1/2 months old and he wakes up and screams for a couple minutes and then goes back to sleep. I asked the pediatrician if he was having nightmares, and she said at this age its not nightmares but night terrors and perfectly normal.

  5. My daughter had them when she was about 3 or 4.  They were horrible.  she would sit right up in bed and cry and scream but she was asleep and wouldn't remember a thing the next day.  They always told me never to shake her or startle her.   They said just calmly hug her and talk in a soft voice.  She would just stop and lay back down.

  6. I don't mean to be rude, but your name in yahoo answers is Evil step mom, so maybe that has to do with why he is screaming in his dreams. Do you treat him well? Are you an evil step mom to him? That could explain his nightmares. If you are good to him, then  google search Adam and his first wife Lilith. Millions have blamed her (Lilith) for infant death, men's night dreams, and other night time problems, night terrors, etc. Anyhow,  I did my best to answer this for you. Peace.

  7. 1 had these not sure what the cause is but DONT try to wake them up it only makes it worse... It helped ours if you just firmly place you hand on them their stomach or back what ever side they are on and then talk softly we started a prayer at night and that is usually what I would start to say when he was screaming... Now he sleeps wonderfully.  Knowing that we are there is very comforting.
