Does anyone have experience with Lee Liquid Alox?

I wish to reload a 300 gr LBT RFP with a check for a Marlin. I read great reviews on the Alox, but I recently was told it was junk. If you have experience with it please reply. Id like to know if you think ir would be better than blue lube.

  1. I have used it and am not impressed with it.  It is very messy and ends up getting all over everything.  If you are using a Lee bullet sizer that lacks the lube capability, the Liquid Alox is one way of getting lube on your bullets.  If you have a Lubricator/Sizer, just stick with the standard lubes that come in a stick form that fits into your Lubricator/sizer.  I bought a Lee bullet sizer for my Sharps .45-120 bullets and used Liquid Alox on the bullets after sizing them.  After one batch, I quickly decided that I prefered the lubricator/sizer.  I immediately ordered a .458 die fot my lubericator/sizer and put the Alox on the shelf.  If you don't mind the mess and the clean-up afterward, Liquid Alox will get the job done for you.

  2. I have been using Lee's Allox on my cast bullets going on 15 years.  I allox the bullets before sizing, and after.  After sizing I let the bullets air dry for a few days - then dust them with mica powder so they are not sticky.  You can get the mica from wwww.midwayusa.com

    Hope this helps.

  3. Lee Liquid Alox is not garbage. It will work. It is just very messy that's all. Liquid alox is very sticky. It sticks onto everything pretty well. Excess liquid alox will stick to your bullet seater. You'll have to check for excess lube build up on your dies more frequently when you use Liquid Alox. Sand and dust will stick onto your bullet tip if you allow your loaded ammo to be exposed to them. Extra attention is needed if you wish to use liquid alox lubed ammo. You can not use bullets lubed with Liquid Alox on the same day; you have to let the lube bullets dry a little before you could load them. If you think you could live with those qualities, I don't see any reason why you shouldn't use Liquid Alox.

  4. Liquid Alox, when used as directed, makes a very good lub for lead bullets. It does what it is formulated for and that is reduce the leading in your barrel. I have used it with R.E.A.L. bullets and with standard cast bullets. When used with a LEE sizinf set up it isn't too messy, but using it with a regular sizer/luber (minus the regular lub) it is a little troublesome.

My recommendation is using it with the R.E.A.L. bullets.
