  1. I wouldn't do it if I were you. Your children would not have the same kind of social experience with home schooling as they would in a regular school. Not only that, but I've taken classes online in addition to the ones with school and they don't provide the same kind of quality that those in school do. I didn't retain much information. It's much cheaper to keep them in school and much better education-wise as well.

  2. omg...

    thats SO weird!

i just started homeschooling online on monday,

and my mom enrolled me[in seventh grade]

and my little sister[in first grade]

    omg! thats freaky!

but uhm yah anyways its really good so far.

my teacher dropped by today and the people are really helpful and your kids will learn alot and they can stay away from bullies but still see their friends,

    i do!

i suggest you put your kids in CAVA.

    http://www.caliva.org/

    thats where i go.:]

maybe ill get a chance to talk to your kids on an open session.:]

    best of wishes!

  3. I personally, do not like it at all.

I've been in many different schools due to repeated moves.

I was homeschooled traditionally for preschool and kindergarten. My mother got me a personal tutor for fifth grade. This year, in tenth grade, I'm going to a completely online school.

Homeschooling is /not/ a good option if your children are very outgoing/social. It's very hard being home without contact outside of my family on a very regular basis. Not having other human beings to talk to, and just simply be around is lonely.

But then again, I don't know how you'd go about homeschooling or what you plan for your kids

Just make sure your kids aren't cut off totally from other kids their age and fun activities.

  4. It is great for certain people, not so great with others. I'm home-schooled on line and I love it. I'm in grade 9 BTW. If your children are responsible, are not lazy, and are self disciplined, it's great. However, I would recommend putting them in sports and stuff so they can be active with other kids. It's easy on line to get side tracked and not do the work. But I love it!

Edit- Don't listen to the people that say kids that are home schooled are less social. They are only less social if there parents make it that way. If you have activities with other children to do, they will be fine.

  5. There are quite a few online programs, some are better than others, some are better accredited. Laurel Springs is a California program that is well accredited, and a solid program, there is also Caliva/Cava for California, which you can google for more information. However, I do not know how the laws in California are going to affect this type of program. I can't give you much information on homeschooling in other states. There are many different methods of homeschooling though, and there is almost surely one that can be right for you.

  6. I took a few online courses through Texas Tech Uni while I was in highschool(it was HS level curriculum).

It's not difficult if you're dilligent about doing every on time, but it's easy to slip behind because the deadlines aren't being pushed at you every 10 minutes.

As a Uni student now, I prefer online courses because I can work ahead at my own pace.

I think being an autodidact is very helpful, and is an important skill for children to learn that they may not get a chance to learn in a proper school.

  7. Yes, I've been HS'ing my 10 y.o. son with an online curriculum for over 5 years.  We use K12 as independent HS'ers, not as part of a public virtual academy/school, but I know many people who do use a VA/VCS.

We also use the Internet ALL the time for looking up photos, information (today's topic at lunch - when were M&M's invented?), online networking with other HS'ers, attending online seminars, doing free courses online, and much more.
